Daniel Sturridge

Really surprised as objective no 1 has to get rid of all the £30k per week players for some while. It goes with their egos mind you and Gibbo is easily flattered. If I was up against him I would be putting some heavy tackles on the knee early doors. He won't last and will be ineffective at this level. Would not want him at Blackpool.

To be fair when he played for Wanderers against us at home in the Prem he was fantastic. As good as any striker I saw in that division that season.

Would be a gamble now tho, lots of injuries and just had a year without a club.

Not much doubt about his ability, plenty of doubt about his fitness.

Strange with players like him that you know his wage demands would remain very high when it’s equally, if not slightly more, likely that he’ll hardly play for whoever signs him.

If I was an owner, I’d see players like him as likely expensive mistakes and stay well away.

Football is full of managers/clubs who think they'll be the ones who see the difference. In reality, Sturridge was a wonderfully talented player - as good an all-round striker as we've seen for a long time - but with critical injuries that make the talent nigh-on worthless.

He's a forward version of Ledley King. Superb when fit/able to play through the pain, but missed 20+ games every season at least.

Great if it comes off and he plays sufficient games to make a difference, not doubting his ability, but really he is the type of player who needs to be on a pay as you play. Sorry his appearance record is poor and could break a club financially as I doubt he will come cheap.
