Still working for Wednesday albeit on reduced duties according to this, sounds like they won't release him ATM (not sure why he can't just leave as has been the case with others) presumably they want a replacement in first, and are playing hard ball and making him work his notice which often isn't the case, either that or to talk to him to persuade him to stay (although that seems less likely given the reduced duties).

It's called a notice period, you can't just walk out! Most senior positions have a 3 month period, although this can be reduced with agreement. I'm only surprised he wasn't put on gardening leave.

Badlan didn't work a 3 month notice period with Coventry,
Football tends to be different, clubs tend to allow people to take up new posts early (without notice) as a gesture of goodwill, but perhaps you're right in this instance and they're not allowing that 🤷 I don't know,

Edited the O/P

I think it largely depends on the 2 clubs, they probably didn't want the disruption ahead of their play off games. The fact he's still fulfilling his role suggests there's nothing acrimonious. I'm sure it will all be sorted soon.

I thought Badlan was sacked? Which is very different!

Given Badlan’s record maybe Cov weren’t too upset to see him go

Also given his record, perhaps they thought he was joining Blackburn. Or Blackpink 😍

Wednesday, presumably, want his replacement in place before he goes, plus maybe a week or so's overlap to do a handover, so it's likely neither club knows exactly when he'll be free.
Surely if Downes has agreed to join then he gives his notice and either SW waive or enforce it. At the end of that period he moves on. From DD pov he'd surely want to be in as early as possible in the close season.

Sounds like the announcement from our side was a bit premature.

Assuming he's got 3 months notice, Wednesday can partially enforce it, i.e. for maybe a month or six weeks, and then waive the remainder when it's mutually convenient.

There is a definite time period. fas, 3 months. In which case BFC could have said...the new SD will start on July 1 with further details available nearer the timer, then if he can start earlier all good and well.

The definite time period is likely some point in August, but if the club expects it to happen much earlier, there's not much point in announcing that.

So why not announce it? We’ve got our man, he will start on………
To be honest I'm not over-bothered about when he comes or if it's someone else. But I do think it's indicative of the lack of communication between the Club and it's lifeblood ie us, the fans. The Club seems to think that all we have to do is hand over our hard-earned cash, support the team, behave and don't complain.

What do you want them to tell you??? When there’s news, they’ll announce it. Such a weird take that you feel the club have to inform you about every little thing. They can’t announce David Downes until he officially leaves Sheffield Wednesday, which is imminent. Chill.

Sounds like Downes doesn’t want it bad enough - no passion. Not a good start.
If he's still contracted to SW there won't be anything he can say, or do about it. He could have a paddy and go to the press I suppose. Maybe mere recruitment people could do that, but surely not Sporting Directors. 😉 😁

Reading the link there's a video interview with Reece James at the top.
Saying he loves the club, city, fans etc.

Hands up who thinks Reece wants to stay in Sheffield ?☹️👍🏻

Need to see what's in his locker. We should expect no less than 110%. He should F112k the Owls off up t'road and get on with his job.
Would you want a man who f***s his existing club "up t'road" as your sporting director?

Would you be happy to see BFC f***ed up the road if Villa wanted a new sporting director?

Yes.

No.

Hope at the very least he’s wearing a tangerine tie while doing his work for the Passive…..
