I’m a soul boy but wow. Watching Pink Floyd on YouTube
Love them and I love him. I know so many dont get them and live and let live.I’m a soul boy but wow. Watching Pink Floyd on YouTube
There are supposedly better guitarists & usually the ones that get a mention are Jeff Beck, Steve Vai & Joe Bonamassa to name a few, but it's subjective & not about how many notes & weird wailings can be played at lightening speed. Things like melody are important, to me anyway & DG has bucket loads of ability in that department. One of my all time favourites. No other guitarist compares in terms of feel, plenty of technically better guitarists but his playing hits you right in the soul.
I'm not downplaying his ability either, for me he sits right in the sweet spot of technical ability and feel.
Comfortably Numb, Time, Have a Cigar, Dogs.. absolutely immense.
That's exactly it, plenty of guitarists can fly up and down the fret but it does nothing for me. Its arguably harder to do what Gilmour does. There are supposedly better guitarists & usually the ones that get a mention are Jeff Beck, Steve Vai & Joe Bonamassa to name a few, but it's subjective & not about how many notes & weird wailings can be played at lightening speed. Fully agree & the old cliché "less is more" works for me.That's exactly it, plenty of guitarists can fly up and down the fret but it does nothing for me. Its arguably harder to do what Gilmour does.
Gilmour is the master of knowing when not to play, rather than fill a solo with as many notes as possible. Give me feel over "technical ability" every day of the week!
Wish you were here a favourite of mine since I first heard it . Gilmour, supreme guitarist. The holy trilogy…
Dark side of the moon
Wish you were here
Animals…
Another of my all time favourite guitarists , is the under rated Tonly Clarkin of Magnum. That's exactly it, plenty of guitarists can fly up and down the fret but it does nothing for me. Its arguably harder to do what Gilmour does.

I love Magnum, particularly Storyteller’s Night and Vigilante.Another of my all time favourite guitarists , is the under rated Tonly Clarkin of Magnum.
Remember reading an interview of his in a magazine , and when questioned about his songwriting ability he said “ why play a handful of notes, when just one will suffice “
Vigilante album is a true masterpieceI love Magnum, particularly Storyteller’s Night and Vigilante.
Me tooDave Gilmour guitar technique is technically harder to do than most, it’s all in the string bending, loads of massive bends, why it sounds so good…
Wish you were here is my fav album of all time…
Hell of a steel guitar player tooLove his sound largely driven by effect pedals though mainly delay
Comfortably numb - lyrics by Waters.Comfortably Numb, Sorrow (can’t believe it’s not had more mentions, even if it’s ** depressing ) and Another Brick
