Delighted for Albie

I cheered for that one louder than the others. So happy for the lad. He's not complained or thrown his dummy out the pram at not being selected, he's just kept his head down, worked hard and got on with the job. That goal was a reward for that. The more players we have scoring, the better. Hopefully this give him some confidence to push on now.

Albie's a good player - he'll develop.
Also reckon Carey could be an effective centre / defensive mid.
He gets stuck in and has a great engine.
Maybe we expected too much of him as an attacking mid.

Delighted for him, thought he did well last week when he came on as well. Must be pushing for a start on Tuesday if and when Critch decides to rotate players?

Maybe some expected too much of him as a young player in general. He's just 22, and clearly developing well. Hopefully he'll keep coming along and probably fulfilling the type of role Keith Southern used to do for us.

There's a tear in my eye at the mere mention of KS 🤧, some great memories but that's not for this thread.

Lovely dilemma for Critchley when Virtue and Norburn are both fit.

Might get caned for this but here goes . . . Would we be better off without Norburn? Last 6 games, won 4 drawn 1 lost 1. The loss was the only game he played in and the only one we didn't score. The other 5 we got 15 goals. He seems to be the on-field instigator of tippy, tappy backpassing that has our defence in a flap and the slow, cautious build up of attacks which are predictable and easy to defend. I wonder too if his authoritarian personality unsettles the more creative players from being too 'gung ho'

We need a full squad and different styles. There is a place for everyone. Suspect with Dembele as one of the midfield three, that would also negate the need for Norburn to pass back so much. Remember they have not played together properly in a midfield three - Dembele was alongside Rhodes up top at Bolton.

l get what you're saying FS thought the same myself about the back pass stuff and it’s no coincidence that Eki is getting back to his best!

The balance of the team yesterday was great, especially in midfield with Dougall and Carey doing the physical stuff, Dale and CJ running the lines and Dembele with his free role causing no end of bother for Pompey. Like you've alluded to, what would our midfield shape gain with Norburn. What negative effect would a more defensive formation have on winning games and scoring? I suspect he'd make a very good centre half although maybe a couple of inches too short.

Not at all FS i think that is a fair shout. Yes we need a full squad firing on all cylinders and there will be games where a Norburn will be required, however and presently the lads in possession of the shirts keep them.

Love the way Critch has gone from the boring possession football to possession with a purpose.
