Dembele has to start

He showed more talent and creativity in the 10-15 mis he was on than we saw from the all the other players on the pitch (on both sides) added together! Some of his passes were Messi like and his ability to unlock defences cannot be left on the bench. He looks way to good for this level and must be starting from here on in....

Totally agree , he is a class act & must start.

The whole team started to look like a good side all of a sudden as well. Jordan Rhodes sparked into life making those sharp runs in and around the box.
Those last 15 minutes of play should be all Critchley needs to know about how to set up this team.
Be bold play Dembele behind Rhodes and one other , we will beat a lot of teams in this division.

I can't see any way that he doesn't start. Whether Critch wants to play him as a 10 behind 2 strikers is a different matter. He might stick him up front again. For me personally he plays as a 10 but Critch isn't that open to go all out.

He did look lively but he may, like others, be effective as sub for last half hour when opposition have tired.
I agree that he may not be as effective from the start, but I still reckon he will be far more effective than our other starters. I don't think even fresh League One defenders would have been able to cut out those passes. We cannot be wasting that kind of creativity. If I was Jordan Rhodes I'd be banging on Critch's door to get him starting. The evidence today was that they are on the same wavelength and if we can keep them both for the season then we are going to score a shed load of goals...

OK JJ what did he offer🤷
I'm not saying he was brilliant, nor did he particularly stand out bar slipping a lot.

But we constantly hear it, oh he's not good enough now, we had it with Morgan, comes on today does well, suddenly he'll be alright again.

He didn't put a marker down but we played poorly first half anyway.

I think 1 away game when we're not at our best is a bit early to make a proper judgement.

Husband was a liability a couple of years ago, now Mr consistent.
I cannot believe supposed fans writing off a player who plays 60 odd minutes on his debut for us away from home against league leaders(they were at the time)
Thought Carey was the latest boo boy anyway

Fair enough 👌

I suppose the thinking is if we're losing he is an impactful player but if he starts and we're struggling then there's not really anyone of that class to come in.

Took about 5 minutes of his first appearance to work that out.
He’s the sort of player you build the team around. He has to start.
Can somebody tell the boss?
Suppose this is where as a coach who has worked with lots of youngsters his cautious side comes in - when do you unleash them on a regular basis. Great for us to watch but I'd be inclined to trust Critch with this one.

Having only played a 3rd of a game on Saturday I'd be amazed if he didn't start tomorrow. I can see him working really well with CJ with dembele's vision and CJ's pace to get in behind. Lovely!

Appreciate he’s being cautious and that’s fine sometimes, but tbh I would prefer to have the strongest side starting the match. If NC then chooses to change things at H/T or on the hour, that’s sensible squad rotation & management.
I’d still rather get a lead and strong basis to hold onto 3pts, than to be pushing / chasing a result in the latter stages, as we often find ourselves doing.

Might be that if Dembele plays behind a front two he goes more defensive with the wingbacks.
I think he'd still start with Hamilton but he might put Thompson or Lyons in for Dale. He might even put Connolly back in which would be giving with one hand and massively taking away with the other!!!

A_S, I hope you're suitably impressed - cos I know I am - with the obvious sway you have over such key matters as team selection at the club these days ...

😁 Yes, he was fantastic. You can see he is still learning, but he looks to me to be an incredible talent (for this level). He's the kind of special player that gets your pulse racing. And isn't it great that Critch reads and takes notice of the AVFTT forum 🤣.

I think you're being a tad modest there, A_S! I'm personally attributing the way you are able to affect NC's thought processes, by you're own evident powers of telepathy. I mean - just: wow!

He shows some real moments of class, then when he gets subbed and an ineffective replacement comes on, we usually look worse and concede.

I watched him walk onto the pitch after the match and thought he was limping. Hopefully just a bit stiff after a good 60 minute workout.
