Dembele's one on one

Keeper did brilliantly, cannot blame dembele for the miss. The defender also pulled off a brilliant block. Very unlucky.
They did well but he gave them loads of time, he massively over thought it, couldn't decide what to do and by the time he did he'd allowed the defender to recover. Sort of chance at that time in the game you can't squander, he buggered up a one on one the other week as well so it mustn't be his strong point!

Having watched it back this morning, I thought the keeper did well to come out and narrow the angle, which made an early shot quite difficult. Just a shame the defender got back otherwise it's a goal!

Fucked it the second he tried to round the ‘keeper. Few times last night the shot was on and we made the wrong decision. Lyon’s was another one trying to square it to Lavery.

We have been guilty of not shooting enough all season. 3 of our last 4 goals have been speculative shots that have turned into cracking goals. You’d think we would have learned by now ..

I don't think he's been playing as well in the last few games which probably why he didn't look confident in putting it away

I don't get that comment who else can you blame, the problem with the chance was that it was on the wrong side of the pitch for him if it had been on his left he would of not of even tried to round the keeper. As i was always told if possible get your strike away as early as possible it doesn't allow defenders to get back and you can always pick up rebounds if the keeper saves it

Like earnshaw said after the game, if he opened up his body he had an option of slotting to the right, over the keeper or take it round him like he did, said he’d learn from this as still only young.
What a cracking game to watch though utp!!!

Agree with that except for Albie's first goal v Exeter. That wasnt speculative. He meant it, and it was a goal as soon as it left his foot.

I was thinking this morning, of the players we have, who would you have wanted that chance to fall to.

I was happy enough it went to Kaddy, it was just not to be on that occasion.

The defender did brilliantly, not that he knew anything about it. Element of luck involved for Forest, but that’s Cup football.

I wasn’t confident about pens.

Probably also saved a few in the crowd from freezing.

Pity he didn’t score, as we would have been talking about that comeback for years.
Thought he did OK TBH. Timed his run brilliantly, neatly past the keeper, but probably slightly wider than he would have wanted, then one touch too many, and a brilliant block from the defender. Bit unlucky really.

In one way it could be a blessing in disguise. I’ll bet there were one or two scouts watching and that chance missed may just have stopped the scouts raving over him? I must be one of the few who believe we have a fair chance of signing him permanently.
If no one else fancies him then we could be a great option.
Q loads saying we can’t afford him etc. Maybe we can.
Back to his chance…. He got by the well positioned keeper and from a tricky angle he got a fair shot on target and was unlucky.
He’s forgiven and we move on.
He is the one player we have that is worth the price of a ticket and we should just enjoy his talent while he is here. I call him ‘the wriggler’.
Best player here for some years IMHO and I love the little guy.

You’re in cloud cuckoo land mate if you think we can sign Dembele permanently enjoy him until the end of the season because he will be moving on to bigger and better things.

Thought Earnshaws analysis was really good after the game. There’s certainly room for having someone like him paid to do a bit of coaching for strikers on finishing and runs (or in fairness Rhodes should do it!)

It’s not worth doing that type of coaching full time as it’s a bit repetitive but once a month maybe - run specialist drills and work with younger attacking players on finishing only.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve replayed that moment in my head, never mind the lad himself. he appeared to apologise to the fans after the game and I can only imagine he’s gutted. Would have been one of those ‘I was there moments’ seem to remember screeching like a “girl go on Dembele!” It would have been absolutely insane if it went it.
I’m still bursting with pride regarding our fight back, took my two lads, my youngest who’s 8 always goes on that he supports Man City etc and says he doesn’t even like Blackpool well he was crying his eyes out when they scored and praying we’d equalise, that in its self made me proud and proves you can’t help but absolutely love Blackpool FC and tangerine bloody runs through our veins.

Goalscoring is an art and very hard to coach, if at all possible

Ideally you want a left footed player on a one on one coming in from the right and vice versa for a right footed player, that way they can open up their bodies and pass it in to the net, if Dembele would have tried to hit it with his left from the left he would have no doubt dragged it wide, he knows he's quick enough to round the keeper in that situation but fair play to the defender on getting back and blocking it.

A pity because it would have capped off a great comeback on the night, the only plus point is Bristol City away is hardly a glamour tie, imagine if the winner would have a Man Utd or Liverpool in the next round, we'd be really gutted then.

I think sometimes you just have to credit the opposition, and their keeper and defender did incredibly well. Some might say with a bit of luck, but often you make your own luck and the defender and keepers positioning was excellent and just made it that bit more difficult for Dembele.

But imagine the scenes if that had gone in!

It was interesting reading some of the comments on BBC Sport.

Most were praising Dembeli, but there were two who said he was rubbish.

With all due respect to them, I wish all our players were as rubbish as him!

He should have shot or chipped him.
If only?
He should have started instead of Carey, as he terrorised forest away!
As the keeper went down a goal scorer would have lifted it into the other corner. Some things are natural, but finishing is not natural to a number of our players.

I like Dembele and he does bring an energy to the team but he does sometimes flatter to deceive. I have noticed that if he has the ball for longer than 5 seconds he tends to either fall over or get completely overwhelmed by what to do and give the ball away.

Glad he is here though.

It was great chance and he should have put it away to the keeper's right. Perhaps he didn't have confidence in his right foot. Veering to the left of the keeper made the angle more acute and allowed a defender to get back and protect the goal.

He did brilliantly to get round the keeper. It was a very block from their defender.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It's a shame no one else was making a run to his right to give him the option of drawing the keeper then passing it across for an open goal.

I doubt we have anyone quick enough to catch up and be square of him!!

Dembele certainly brings pace and energy to our attack, we’re more of a threat with him in the team rather than on the bench.

Sometimes you just have to give credit to defenders for doing their job
For their second goal Marv did great to get back to defend our goal line, but unfortunately couldn't keep the shot out

Would it have been different if he'd gone to his right rather than his left?
For me just great goal keeping and defending, took it round the keeper and hit a good shot on target, defender did very well to get in the way and not hand ball it
