Just thought I’d add a quick shout out for Mitchell. With very little football under his belt I thought he had a really promising debut. Comfy on the ball, very quick, dynamic dribbles forward, composed performance all round. If he stays fit, he looks hard to shift in this team. exciting potential.

That could mean husband at CB, but in a back 4, we’d be perhaps even more Vulnerable from crosses/corners, so might be tricky for one of our more experienced heads to get back in. Nice problem to have as they say, Mitchell might need handling a little with injury in the recent past So good to have solid options, Shaw also unlucky not to make bench!

UTMP!

Looks a very exciting prospect like a lot of the team, we have brought some quality footballers to the club

Extremely quick, good touch and reads the game well. If we can build his fitness and keep him injury free we will have a serious player. We do need more experience in the centre of our defence as I think that would help bring more out of some of the youngsters.

He's a full back that takes on defenders, drives with the ball. Credit has to go to Plymouth, they have a very defensive set up and if they get that goal it's up to you to unlock them. And we just didn't do that, albeit with 2/3 chances we should be scoring from.

I was impressed with the way he got forward and broke through their midfield; players who can do what he does will be few and far between at this level.
When he builds up his fitness and understanding hw will be a real asset.

He is a modern wingback where he is encouraged to bomb forward to assist in attack like a trent arnold robertson type player and the center back covers his runs at the back he looked sharp going forward.

Well I think he is a star in the making for us. This will be a stepping stone to better things for him and we are lucky to have got him. He wont take much to get up to full fitness and then he will be a real asset. As I said before NC hasnt brought him in for nothing...he will play every week and will defo be in front of husband and Shaw.

He does look like a star in the making , but I felt he went missing / got caught out of position a couple of times yesterday, but with some good coaching he will put this right. I only hope that Teddy Howe will be afforded the same time as Mitchell, as I believe he is equally as good !

When he gets forward, like he will be told to, someone should fill the space he leaves behind.

That doesn't mean Mitchell is at fault and caught out of position should possession be lost and the opposition attack down their right hand side; it is the fault of the player who should be covering.

You can't tell a player to make 60/70 yard runs forward and then expect him to get all the way back within seconds should play break down.

He was missing for their attack that resulted in the goal.
Respectfully I disagree completely with that. We were defending a corner; when the ball broke left that’s not where Mitchell was he was top right of the box, which is pretty reasonable, it would be strange if the left back stood at left back when defending a corner from the right! Watching the video, Hamilton went after the ball (and let’s be honest, should have dealt with it easily), Mitchell made a run to left mid, to provide the outlet for Hamilton to pass to I presume. There was no way he was at fault.

Well spotted !

I think that's all the more reason to play Husband in the middle. Notts is better on the right of the middle and a push right back. Asking him to play on the left and then at times be an ancillary left back is creating an issue.

It's not a criticism cos Husband wasn't fit so he couldn't play but when he is, I'd like to see that given a go. He's also more of a leader/talker than the other centre halves and whilst not exactly Baresi has reasonable distribution and is comfortable carrying the ball by the standards of an average lg 1 central defender.

Agree. Yesterday was one of those games where it's hard to pin blame because the player who lost us the game was also, that mistake aside, by far and away the best chance of winning it and had a cracking match.

Take CJ out the game, we don't concede that goal but we also look 50% less likely to score one.

It is what it is.

I think that’s worth a try, might depend who we’re playing. I worry about teams with big strikers or who like corners and set pieces against us atm. Our main defensive strategy seems to be don’t let the opposition have the ball, which is a good strategy, but some managers won’t let us have it our own way and will try to spoil and then bomb us.

Baresi didn’t have to play gillingham on a cold Tuesday night😉

Yes, I think that's fair enough. 👍

Completely agree.

We were defending a corner and he was on the near post. How is he then expected to be covering out wide on the other side of goal? CJ should have cleared it three times before Aimson crossed.
This has been pointed out to me. Perhaps I was thinking of an earlier attack near the start of the game.

CJ should have been standing on the half way line for the counter attack
He was out of position, tried to be clever. You get it out of play and reset, even with a play it out from the back ethos. Absolute basics. I’m sure he will learn from that.

Mitchell apparently started life as a winger and was converted to an attacking full back. His instincts are likely to be more as an attacking wide player than defensive?

We were defending a corner. His job was to be on the front post. Why should he then be expected to be over in the left back spot when the ball is played beyond the far post.

He should have been back Post......
Because golden boy CJ cocked up big time....
He should have fooking launched it.....

What part of playing where he was told to by the coach for set pieces do you not understand? It's like having a debate with a two year old.

I wasn't referring to yesterday. I haven't seen the game yet.

Mitchell had a really good game. He did what was required defensively and looked good moving forward. It's nice to see a full-back being able to come inside and use his wrong foot. The current England left-back can't do that. Shaw can consider himself unlucky after after Tuesday and, although Robson did well when Mitchell went off, it leaves a hole in midfield that Williams isn't filling just yet so it's not a change I'd like to see regularly.

Crazy decision playing your play maker at left full back....
But then again critchers has only ever managed BOYS football

I read that Mitchell was competing with Brandon Williams at United and so presumably his injury was the reason for his release. I don't know how true this is, and if it was that simple. He played for England U20s when they won the Toulon tournament, he was highly regarded. So if his injuries don't reappear, we could have a very good player.

I feel a bit like I did with Ollie's development squad and just not sure who everyone is or their roles are. Even worse trying to work out who everyone is on iFollow!!

We have a 22 man squad. It's not that hard! 😉

Kaikai is the black bloke up front on the left. Number 10.
CJ is the black bloke up front on the right. 22.
Yates is the little white bloke between them.
Keshi is a problem cos he gets all over the place and could be confused with Kaikai at times. But he's number 8.
Mitchell also appears on the left, and is black too. But his hair is different.
Nottingham and Ekpiteta, tricky. You're just going to have to study them. They run differently.
Turton is easy.
So is Maxwell.

Yes, Maxwell is easy. He's the one who picked the ball out of the net.

I’ve got a hand written list of player names -squad numbers which I need at present. iFollow commentators frequently get names wrong so list is much used.
Thought Mitchell did well for competitive pool debut, surprised Shaw not on bench to replace.

Totally agree - sometimes less is more. When we won promotion to the PL we had an 11 which pretty much picked itself without too many options outside of that. Have we gone too many too soon?

Eh? we have a squad of 22ish do we not? Like everyone else? And the team is close to picking itself at the moment. You do need cover for injuries and suspensions, and players also need to feel they have to perform or someone else will come in. Happy medium - enough players, but not too many. 22 ish seems reasonable.

father in law is a Manc [ a real one not a plastic ] said he was shocked they let him go, he said he's lightning fast and nothing gets past him. for a none fit player? he looks great and will get better. the future is bright and not worried about saturday's result one bit. UTMP

What I meant was in term of the number offloaded and brought in... it’s going to take time,
