Development Squad

Longridge is the home of the u18s and Bamber Bridge the Development Squad/Reserves. It does if course depend on availability. The quality of the pitch is very important and unfortunately BFC have been unable to find quality/available pitches in Blackpool. The former Longridge groundsman is now assistant head groundsman at Bloomfield Rd although I believe he is still helping out at Longridge.
Here's a preview of this afternoon's match from Stephen Dobbie.

Even in the reserve team you can see the squad planning imbalance on full back recruitment. Three left backs in that team list. I don't know who Toby Oliver is but I'm guessing he's a very young right back.

You guessed wrong. He generally plays at CB, where he performs very well, but I think it describes him on the Official Site as a mid-fielder. However it looks like he might be playing at RB today. I'll let you know shortly. He joined our U18s from Man Utd.

So no actual right backs then and someone having to cover there. So a familiar story from development through to first team.

Jack Moore is here (not sure if he is injured), Kwaku Donkur is injured. Bobby Bjork currently fills the RB spot for the u18s and he's been playing very well recently.
Development players typically get trialled in different positions.

Huddersfield have dominated possession but we've looked good on the break. An outstanding save from Stuart Moore though kept us in it.
1-0

A mistake from the Huddersfield defence after some good pressing from Holmes allows him to get into the box and square the ball to Luke Mariette who bundles it over the line.
Francis & Squires off, Lescott and Strawn on.
2-0.

Good result although Huddersfield had most of the possession. We played well and I thought Dannen Francis ripped the Terriers' left back to shreds in the first half.

Brad seems to grow another inch every time I see him. He's a big lad now and he's definitely got an eye for goal. He's not the finished product yet but he's in the slow cooker getting him ready for the next step up.
Noticed that too, thought he put himself about today and had a decent game.

Where is Jake Daniels?
I wonder how much damage the whole coming out story did to Jake. Brilliant he was the one to be brave enough to do it but when I see his endorsements on Instagram and the fact he's not really progressed as a player this season, and I take on board the injuries, I do worry if it has stifled his progress.

Jake started the season with a hat trick against PNE and then had a short barren period, like all strikers do. During this period, he was still getting into good positions but narrowly missing the goals with his chances. He had resumed scoring when he was injured. He remains a special talent, to my mind.

Daniels looks a decent twisty turny forward at youth team level but it’s a massive leap.
Don Telford has had a career, no reason Daniels can’t either- it just not be with us at Championship level, which is no slur. I hope he turns out to be good enough but our youth system hasn’t turned out too many gems in the last 30 years

Is is obvious we are taking developing our own players, very seriously. There is a real chance 2 or 3 may make it through, and hopefully save us, a, fortune.

Twisty turny?? Lol. 30 goals in a season.. Try your homework... Look at the facts.. Shocking!

Erm, Championship > Youth Team
Free on a Saturday morning at Longridge for anyone who wants to judge for themselves

Why don't you say hello next time you are there?

Daniels stood out against Chelsea and Newcastle last year and did fine for Bamber Bridge playing in men's football at just over17 years of age. I pray that we have a structured development plan for him, including playing for the development squad and further loans. He has real potential to that we must bring to fruition.
