Lavery on his own up front in the first half. Think this gave the Vale more confidence to see out the game, We then had to chase the game and became predictable ? any comments. Also what was the advantage playing Lavery on his own up
front ? in the 1st half. I assume Carey was the player to push forward and link up ? but did'nt happen in the 1st half. To have won tonight we needed a Cosgrove, and a Banks to open them up. Its clear we are short of 2/3 players if we can get them ?. The Coach I would think knows the positions of weakness to expose teams like Vale who will come here and look to get a result ?. See what the Orient bring on Sat . The squad isnt complete yet thats for sure.

That and picking Dougall, who was awful, we don’t need 2 defensive midfielders and it never works, especially at a home game, it was like watching a McCarthy selection.

Maybe there was a reason we don’t know about that meant Beesley couldn’t manage a full game?
Maybe if he had played Dale alongside Lavery instead of Carey it would have worked out better?
We don’t know, but we do know we are short of forward options.
We need a bit more transfer activity before the deadline and a bit more flexibility from NC I think. And three points on Saturday defo.

If you play a 10 style player, you've got to do one of these two things...

Either, have the 10 picking it up from knockdowns/layoffs from a back to goal target man - that's not Lavs.
Or you get the ball into the 10 and you get runners beyond them so they can jink and spread it/thread it. That didn't happen because I don't think at any point in the first 45 Dougall or Morgan were beyond Carey.

It didn't make sense. Second half, Morgan advanced more and looked for space - it was a bit better.
