Disabled mascot last night.

I hope medically there’s a solution too as she had such a bright smile and you just want the best for her even without knowing her.
Maryna was the last of BST's mascots for the season. She and her family have come to England to escape the conflict in Ukraine and we were very happy, with the support of one of our Members, to give all of them a positive memory after what has been a very difficult time for them.

Her condition appeared extreme - so it might not be feasible - but is there any form of surgery or treatment that would benefit her?
Anything that fundraising could help with?

That kid deserves the best chance in life, and it would be wonderful if that could be facilitated while she and her family are here.

It was such an inspiration to see her out there - my 13 year old lad took it to heart as well 🧡 and she scored a great pen !!!
Wish her and her family the best

Was thinking the same. Fund-raising could perhaps facilitate something bespoke to help her become more easily mobile..

An update for everyone.

A number of you have approached BST to see if there is any more practical support that can be given to Maryna and her family, and we are following that up through the group that supports the Ukrainian families now living in the area. We will keep you posted.

You may have seen our latest Gazette article in the main newspaper on Friday - a (heavily edited) version of it is below, and can be viewed on-line.

Remember, the 1953 Sweepstake is the main means we have to raise money for all the work that we do ; if you want to play a part in that, joining it costs from just £5 a month, although you can buy more balls in the draw if you wish. We pay out 40% of what we receive in prizes, and ALL of the remainder goes to the good cause fund. There are no overheads, as we run the sweepstake ourselves, and as far as we are aware this is the ONLY scheme of its kind that is designed purely for the benefit of Blackpool fans, our club and our community.

I can tell you marina really enjoyed herself, and her family and friends loved the reception she got. Unfortunately there is nothing can be done to change her medical condition. The outcome is she will end up in a wheelchair. So we are trying to give her lots of memories to look back on when she is confined to a wheelchair. been a mascot for Blackpool fòotball club which will be up there as one of her best and biggest memories of her time with us. Big thanks to BST for making it happen.

If implants would be a solution I would think that could only happen once she stops growing.

I had a tear in my eye watching her and hopefully, she can get any help she needs here.

I will now renew my BST membership for this reason alone.
That brave Ukranian girl, with a smile on her face, really puts a lot of other things into perspective.

With such a severe condition, her family bombed out of their house and homeland, Maryna still shows incredible spirit.

Blackpool is a kids’ playground, with so many attractions she can enjoy - Tower & Tower Circus, Pleasure Beach & Ice Arena, Sea Life Centre, Sandcastle, Grand Theatre kids’ shows, the Zoo, Farmer Parrs & other animal centres, numerous indoor play facilities.

There are over 3,000 members of this site, so surely there must be members with influence at these attractions - or members who know key people - who can give her really special days to remember.

If those contacts are out there, would you like posters on here to put you in touch with them?

Blackpool is a town of big-hearted people, a place where Maryna can make memories that will last a lifetime.
The very best of luck with making that happen 🧡

Toastrack

you've made some really good suggestions there, and a number of other posters have been in touch with ideas. Your generosity of spirit is typical of most of our supporters and does you great credit.

We are happy to collate ideas and offers of support where we can. Do bear in mind that the Tarasenko family are part of a bigger Ukrainian community who are living locally. And there are probably thousands of other deserving people in our community who could do with help too.

The main movers here are obviously the local Council and our award-winning Community Trust. But if BST can perform a liaison role, and point people who want to help in the right direction, we will.

Contact us on listening@blackpoolsupporterstrust.com if you want to make suggestions.
