Diversity of Blackpool Supporters

Noticed this particularly at Sheffield yesterday. There were numerous families there with very young children, Dads in the main with their older sons, the fantastic new generation of our younger supporters and my crowd of the older, some infirm but none the less passionate fans who have over the years followed the Pool the length and breadth of the Country. I think since the Premier League days and the subsequent boycott and removal of the Oystons, we have as a club inherited a new generation of Blackpool fans who are for the first time experiencing the excitement and passion of supporting and watching a properly run Football club with a great manager and talented and committed players. Well done to all and long may it continue.

We had a similar conversation yesterday. Just wondering where the swathes of 16-25 year olds have come from? After the boycott years, that's exactly the generation I thought we'd missed out on, but they're the ones really adding to the atmosphere.

Hopefully they're here for the full journey. Once a Pool fan, always a Pool fan.

Was chatting to the PNE copper pre-match last weekend - nice fella TBF (Everton fan) and switched on - he said the big differences between PNE’s support and ours are ….

1 The PNE crowd is more middle class than Blackpool’s

2 Blackpool’s support is far younger particularly our youth element

Both of his observations were quite endearing - I’m very proud of young supporters, they are a class above … 👍🧡

The good thing is there’s still a lot of the older generation(now in their late 40’s 50’s and 60’s) going and a real younger mix aswell who create a special atmosphere… great tie to be a Blackpool fan, player, manager and even owner. What a difference in such a short space of time since the homecoming game. This team can achieve anything and are young and hungry. I am like a young kid looking forward to each and every game… long may it continue.

It was half term. So I would have expected more kids. Irrespective good to see more diversity.

My lads obsessed atm.
He's 9. I took him before the boycott but he was too young to remember those days.
His first proper game was the homecoming. He's been to pretty much every home game (obvs not covid games) and now is coming to every away game with me.
He's got every bloody shirt, trackies, tops gloves hats etc etc.
He wakes up singing the chants and is now mimicking the Critchley arm pump 😂
The clubs a brilliant place to be now thanks to Simon Saddler and King Critch.
Long may it continue.
I LOVE being able to take him and feed off his enthusiasm. Proper dad and lad time.

Brilliant times!

My son is now in China working, I don’t think he would have gone if it wasn’t for the boycott, as the song says, they were hard and we carried heavy loads. (Anyway don’t get me started on mushrooms)

I miss him everyday but most of all on a match day!

Great times. I did every premier league match with him, home and away, fantastic memories, enjoy them

I think Bst, Muckers & Tangerine Knights helped to keep people interested. It would have been so easy for everyone just to walk away. They organised marches and kept the fans fight in the limelight. I'm in my 70's and when I see the the younger fans attending now I know the future is secure. Love my Team & Town.

They've also been locked up for 18 months with nothing to do.

We were also talking about this in the Sheffield pub.
If it wasn't for the boycott all the lads and muckers wouldn't of been able to all get tickets together in the north.
Which makes bloomfield road as noisy as it is.

The atmosphere being generated and orchestrated by whichever group and the Armfield is very, very addictive for younger elements. There is an adrenaline rush and the same sense of belonging as a 'gang' without the associated nastiness and criminality.

Actually, with a bit of a nudge there's a group there who could do a lot of good outside of football (if they don't already?)

Anyway, keep it up, it makes for a wonderful match day and is the envy of the football league.

Must be them bowler hats they wear .🤠

I’m not sure Middle Class is the right word for them…The difference is that Blackpool are more ‘Townie’ and Preston are ‘Bumpkins’👍

We had a similar discussion after the PNE game. There is a massive difference between the sets of fans considering the short distance between the two places. Preston fans are very conservative, a bit dull and probably a little more civilised 😆than us whereas Pool fans are loud and proud and a bit crazy. Probably a reflection of the population of the two towns as a whole.

Great thread.
Don't forget us 'old gits' either.
We don't make a lot of noise, but the spirit is there.
I was hoarse last week at BR when our first goal went in. 🤣

Some of us didn’t boycott

The youth have come through and taken over. I think pre-boycott we were a little more 'happy clappy'. We had an older and more shall we say 'conservative' fanbase.

Since we all came back our support has an edge to it. On the odd occasion some step over the line but overall it's brilliant. You only have to look at the comments of opposition fans week in week out.

It just feels different. I remember pre-boycott getting a bollocking from some old dear behind me because I was stood up infront of her at an away game 🤣

Looking around, everyone was stood up on Saturday.

Prior to reading this - given what I thought they were, I'm now struggling comprehend what we might be.

It’s the party in us. All Blackpool fans love a good time it’s in our dna

Back in the dark days between 2014-2019 never in our wildest dreams we couldn't have envisaged things turning out like they have
The support is incredible - from Simon Ben and Brett doing everything they do in the boardroom through to the Muckers bouncing up and down in the North
Great to see the Westies and the South getting far more vocal as a result as well
We have all the incredible initiatives - new flags / new songs / murals / all sorts of social media and podcast offerings / coaches being run from Poulton / Armfield / South Shore etc / a proper supporters bar / a trust that is able to influence national policies
I genuinely don't believe there is a better atmosphere anywhere in the country right now than at Bloomfield Road and I also think the fan-for-fan we give the best away support as well - jeez we even make our incredible manager teary-eyed with pride
This is what we fought for over that incredibly difficult five year period
These are halcyon days - I for one am enjoying my football more than at any other time in the last 45 years
