Denied entry to Australia for the Australian Open, because he does not have a valid visa exemption on medical grounds to being unvaccinated against Covid. His lawyers are attempting to appeal

The whole of Serbia are annoyed now though and back him, fantastic.
I can’t see the Australian government backing down now they’ve realised the ferocity of most Australian’s towards what has happened. Good on them.

Whilst when rules are applied to all the rich and famous shouldn't be able to bend them...

However, if rules there are applied everywhere it opens a can of worms, many footballers are unvaccinated for eg. Do we stop some games?

Elite athletes are concerned about anything they put into their bodies without full data. A jab with no long term studies and no matter how small, there are issues and concerns. Myocarditis etc. For eg..

Doesn't help when free and proper debate is censored and often only one scientific argument is allowed.

I’ve been jabbed, but you should be able to question things without being shut down.

The fact the jabs don't stop you getting it or passing it on and fade so quickly makes all the mandatory stuff pretty pointless. The only benefit is the longer term severe disease protection that anyone jabbed or anyone who has caught it gets.

Its quite worrying that despite the vaccine flaws and Omicron naturally reducing in severity, the world seems intent on mandating things that don't actually solve covid.

Australia have gone particularly bat shit crazy over covid with some off the harshest and most bizarre behaviour seen.

I don’t believe in compulsory vaccination for anyone, it’s a personal choice. However he hasn’t, as you put it , been shut down. His visa wasn’t in order, if you arrived in Australia or anywhere else without the proper documentation you wouldn’t be admitted. Unless it was here of course, here we admit anyone who turns up , for whatever reason and however they get here.

“When a person naturally recovers from Covid-19, he or she develops a natural immunity against the virus that causes the disease. The available scientific studies so far have shown that natural antibody provides the best and long-lasting protection as compared to any of the available vaccines.”
This should be interesting 💸

Fair enough, haven't followed it closely just a general summary of feelings to the wider situation 👍

I’d just like to add I’m no conspiracy theorist and never will be.I respect those who have and haven’t had the vaccines because at the end of the day it’s their choice.I haven’t had a vaccine but recently had covid which I can honestly say affected me for 48 hours and no more.

Breaking news, he has had his Visa refused and, subject to any appeal, will presumably be removed from the country

I think this could backfire quite badly on Australia. A persons medical history should be treated in confidence and sounds like Djokovic has been backed into a corner. He's an elite sportsman and if he has strong opinions on Covid vaccination then it should be respected. I don't go along with this one rule for him and one rule for the general public argument.

You have to assume every other player, and all their coaches and support teams have had the jabs, otherwise theyd be kicked out as well. So really, his position was untenable.

Australia isn’t the only country where he won’t be able to play either, I doubt France, for example, will allow him in, given little mannys recent “piss them off” outburst against the unvaccinated.

And Australia’s strong views and laws should also be respected. He has to follow the laws of the land he’s visiting, regardless of being an elite sportsman.

I respect his personal choice as an elite sportsman not to have vaccine. But, equally he must also respect the rules of the country he is entering, including the need to have valid medical exemption reasons to get a visa to enter the country. If you or I didn't meet the medical exemption reasons to get a visa, then we would not be allowed entry. He shouldn't be treated any differently, irrespective of who he is.

Just a thought - if Djokovic hadn’t had tweeted that message about him heading down under now his medical exemption was in place he may well have slipped in unnoticed!

I doubt it. The Australian Border Forece are very strict in their interpretation of the visa rules. Interestingly, Tennis Australia had previously used the ABF to advise them on the visa rules and exemption requirements. This time they didn't, but set up their own medical review panel and also used one set up by Victoria state. Seems like a blatant attempt to get around the visa rules by the tennis authorities to get him in. From what I have read these 2 panels seem to have thought he could be exempted because, although he is unvaccinated, he has had Covid and may have some immunity. The fact is that the current Australian rules don't allow that as an exemption.
