Do as I say, and not as I do.

Before I retired, almost 11 years ago, I spent 16 years as a health and safety consultant, and with my teaching cert for adults and further education was able to train the subject. Hopefully I've saved a few accidents and made people think twice before doing something daft like standing on a chair instead of using steps.

Yesterday I was the idiot who didn't listen to his own advice and stood on a chair to reach a high cupboard. The result, I fell, hit a steel bed board on the way down, which broke my fall and also a couple of ribs. it could have been worse, had I fallen the other way it would have been through a window one floor up. After eight hours of severe pain in the A&E dept I was given a prescription to take the hospital pharmacy. They were expecting a delivery of the pain killer could I come back tomorrow (today my wife has set for the pills). Cue a poor nights sleep and still in pain.

Please take note, I now have about 6 weeks or more to recover, and all through being lazy. No football, no alcohol and a feeling of being inept around the house.

DO AS I SAY. Do not stand on chairs.

Good advice, we are all guilty of being a prat from time time to time.

Hope you`re on the mend soon...

Unfortunately I've cut corners many times to just get things done. As I've aged I definitely take more care, hope you get better soon

Oh blimey hope you’re feeling much better soon.
When I worked in Government, our H & S Director went up a ladder at his house with an electric drill to drill holes in the brickwork. The bricks must have been pretty hard because the drill went out of control and turned back into his face taking out a few teeth and leaving his lips and tongue in a bad way. He was off work for months recovering. Although not at all funny, it was an amusing talking point when he did eventually return to work. We really took the piss out of him!

I remember a guy trying to sell hard hats etc to us. His masterpiece was to throw a brick in the air which would hit the hard hat on the way down, proving the durability of the hat. Unfortunately he hadn't put his steel toe cap boots on and the brick bounced off his helmet onto his toes causing three breaks.

Yep, broke my arm doing something similar. I also broke ribs, but that was playing rugby, the ribs healed ok, but I’d also torn the intercostal muscle which took almost a year.

As the old saying goes, it's always the plumber who has the leaky tap.

Hope you recover soonest, just proves we're all fallible.

Used to love my Totector shoes, looked like smart black footwear, but could kick a hole in a wall if I was pxssed off!

You have to be careful even with step ladders. Last summer I was fixing some wiring for the climbing roses on the outside of the house with an 8ft step ladder. I then attempted to move the step ladder, but forgot I had left a 16oz claw hammer on the top shelf. Which then fell and bounced off my head. That prompted me to buy a tool belt
