Dobbie?

I think we can see Dobbie "gets it".
I fully accept that he's not got a lot of experience but neither did Vincent Kompany when Anderlecht gave him a chance.
Not sure if I'd back him if we stay up but even if we do are we unlikely to attract an experienced Championship manager so that's still a maybe?
In League 1 however he looks like a chance worth taking.

It's a tough decision for SS, but Dobbs would be a popular choice with most of us supporters.
I know it's obvious but .... Whoever is appointed will only succeed with the full financial backing of the board, with an appropriate structure in place & people with the right level of experience & expertise.
Follow the Luton model, as they're similar in many ways to us. They're a well run club & they've been at the top for the past two seasons.

I would give Dobb's the job with Thommo as Asst manager and Blinks as coach
I agree Dobbie looks likely to get it especially if/when we go down - he has made a really good fist of let’s be honest is a poor team for this level. He needs experience beside him and you would imagine that Blinks will return to running the academy.

As you say popular choice with many supporters. After the last two disastrous choices by the board, perhaps they might take a chance on someone who would have popular support from day one. I have heard enough of, no experience etc. if we go down we will be in the third division, every manager has to start somewhere, why not a third division team, where he played, knows the first team and development players and gets the club and it’s supporters. He has already shown his playing philosophy is fully in tune with what we want to see and what Sadler promised us . Give him the bloody job, as dell boy would say, you know it makes sense.

It’s his fans behind him

Nathan a Jones had no experience when he took over at Luton , Rob Edwards had no experience when he took over at Forest agreement etc etc - everyone needs a chance to begin somewhere so why not Dobbie with us ? Also if you listen to interviews with Nelson and Yates the players are really enjoying it and buying into what he is doing. The advantage SD has as well is the board will be seeing the players enjoying it, how he works, the atmosphere around the club etc and what he will be like should he be appointed. If we end up in lg1 it’s a no brainier - appoint him asap and let him get on with the rebuild.

As an added bonus he’ll probably be cheap

I don’t see that’s a negative to be honest - as a rookie manager he is bound to be paid less until he proves himself than one of the so called ‘established ‘ managers. I don’t think that’s a bad thing because if he proves himself and is successful with us we are obviously doing well and he gets rewarded. If it does t work out it’s not cost us a lot.

Absolutely

Blinkhorn seemed very involved. I think if Dobbie got the job he would want him with him and maybe also an experienced assistant.

You might be right. Either way he will need an experienced assistant beside him - that’s crucial for me. Having said that SD does seem very single minded and clear focused on what he wants and how he wants to play so who knows.

I originally thought it would be a lazy appointment but I’m right behind him now.

We’ve been lucky we could have him on trial like this. The alternative of paying big bucks and a long contract for someone else and that being another disaster makes me shudder.

Dobbie with Thommo as his experienced number two would do for me, I'm sure they'd get the feel-good factor back for all of us.

In fact Dobbie's made a damn good start and he's obviously a footballing man unlike the two duds we've had to put up with during this nightmare season.

And the two Steve's would both share our Tangerine Dreams.
🧡👍

I would have been dead against it as an out of the blue appointment, but how could you not give it to him now? He clearly is made to be a manager. If we don’t I imagine he will get a shot at the top job somewhere else within a year.

I wasn’t sure at first and l still need a bit more convincing, but Dobbs has certainly instilled confidence into the team winning 2 out of 4 and we should have beaten the Baggies. Should he be given the managers job why not?
If we win on Friday that should seal it for me, might not be enough to keep us up but 3 wins out of 5 is a hell of a statement particularly with this team which is nowhere near good enough.

Pleased to see people now coming round to what is obvious. You only have to see how him and his team conducted themselves on the touchline today, to hear his press work, and to see how he connects with the fans. He's just the right choice for where we are now. Just do it.
Agree, the risk is that we don’t give it to him the job. You would imagine he won’t want to go back to bossing the U23s so he might leave and we will have missed a huge opportunity. Others will be watching who will want him as he will have impressed with the results and for the reasons you have detailed.

If Dobbie works well with Blinks let him be the, assistant. The position of Director of Football is the experienced position you would want filling, someone like Barry Fry

Yep agree with that. Friday should be a night where we show our appreciation of what Dobbs has achieved in such a short time by playing the football we want to see and that is one of Simons cornerstones when he took over!

A good manager needs to be able to inspire, to motivate, to lead, to be courageous. Dobbie ticks all those boxes. "Experience" is massively overrated! To be able to get a tune out of this squad after all that's gone on shows that he "gets it". Get an experienced no 2 in to support but give the man the job.
The experienced number 2 with him was something obviouslysoight agter a while ago, although it would be a shame to lose Blinkhorn in particular, as him and Dobbie seem to have a great connection.

Maybe he would still be on the coaching staff....

Everyone has to start somewhere - so why shouldn’t this be his time/chance?

I’d certainly interview him regardless - he’s done enough to deserve that.

Dobbie, and when he is ready and has had the opportunity to promote some development players to the first team, he would be a very popular choice, even though he never signed for us as a player.
Had him down as a future manager in Jan, pity Mccarthy came along

Will be interesting to see how he gets on between now and the end of the season. If it's two losses then it may even go to someone else.

If he picks up more points then I think he could get it. The club recruited experienced assistants for Critch so I'm sure they could find someone decent for Dobbie. Dobbie himself might have someone in mind.

Dobbie is one that every single fan can get behind, which is so important for our next appointment.

He certainly fills me with more confidence than some of the other names being touted!
Totally agree..He's got a head start on any other candidates aswell as he's already here and will know who's leaving and who's staying..Wellens was always my first choice but have been very impressed with Dobbie, He's a fan favourite aswell which helps
