Just looking at results today notice they are bottom of league 2, massive stadium, big town?

What’s happened there to be in such poop??

I think in general, though it's a cliche it's just "not a football town".

Like you said, their metro population is almost double ours yet they've spent 90% of their history in the bottom 2 divisions with spells in non league.

If anything those mid-late 2000's championship seasons were the outlier which were not achieved through massive investment but a good run of managerial appointments and some savvy signings/youth players coming through.

Do a quick Google search to see to see how bad things were there, you might find a former owner in the 90s set the main stand on fire at the old ground Belle Vue (allegedly of course) . They struggled sometimes to get crowds over a 1,000 there.

In the late 80s and early 90s the away end was the worst fenced pen you ever came across. A pole vaulter wouldn't of scaled the fence, nevervmind a football hooligan. it stayed that way for years. Last time I went was 2004. I think they'd removed the fence.

Yeah I remember that away end fence. Went there on a Friday night early 90’s and a coach load from South Shore had the coach seat covers on their heads.

Another who remembers the Donny Stalag.
Football fans were shit on the shoe to the Thatcher government.

I used to have family near there and they all supported Leeds, Doncaster was always a poor club both in terms of support and
with money. That changed with the development of the shopping, cinema, food outlets, etc, they did a Wyndyke farm-type development
with a more modest ground. They certainly received a bounce with that, but as we have seen even with the most lucrative of these types
of developments such as the Trafford Centre, they have all suffered with the internet and covid. It must be nearly 20 years since I last was
there and it was an impressive development at the time, but that was before internet shopping. Bolton had a similar bounce at Horwich.
