Dr Who

Not seen tonight's yet but it's massively back on form after the disaster of the last incarnation.

It was full of RTD touches. Tennant and Tate were as good as always - she's in my top 5 companions fwiw. It's a programme that needs time to breathe. It's about characterisation so all this 100 mile an hour chat whilst racing around doesn't help. Bring back the two parters RTD!

He knows how to steer the show and his characterisation is always good, not much use for it this time as we already know Donna's story. Tate is my favourite companion as well, well maybe with Amy and Rory.

I know what you mean about two parters but RTD didn't write any from memory?

Tennant is brilliant and a national institution but if they want to bring another doctor back in the future please get Matt Smith back, my favourite from the new run.

Maybe RTD didn't write two-parters (that surprises me, though), but he was show runner when they happened: The Slitheen The Doctor Dances ( a top 3 story for me), Family of Blood. Yes, Midnight and Blink can show off taught writing at its best but too often, 50 minutes flies by without taking breath.

Yeah I agree, Moffat wrote a lot of the two-parters, Empty Child/Doctor Dances Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead (my favourite) Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone etc...

Human Nation/Family of Blood was Paul Cornell.

Actually off the top of my head RTD wrote Utopia/Sound of Drums/Last of the Timelords, two of those were good, the finale was bobbins.

Oh and I agree about Midnight, bloody brilliant, even better than Blink in my opinion.

Tennant and Leslie Sharp. Top acting. David Troughton too...always liked him.

I think the 'Marvel' inspired multi-verse with 2 Doctors is totally breaking the rules of Dr Who
One has PTSD and the other has a totally unique precedence that will no doubt scare the older generation who will say it's a step too far
So will one stay at home while the other goes off on wild adventures.....and probably only meet up on a Christmas special

I originally thought Gatwa was going to be a step too far.....I was expecting a camp RuPaul but got 2020's youth
He came across really well and he's going to bring something new and fresh.....which should come out in the writing of RTD

I do think they broke one of the Doctors biggest unwritten rules on regeneration...but it could change the whole idea of the series for the good.

Rule one, there are no rules. That said, as a Dr Who fan from very near the start (probably Feb 1964), I think the 'spare' Tennant doctor and spare Tardis is a stupid idea. Then again, I'm not 8 years old.

There's already a spare 10 hanging around in Rose's parallel universe from Journey's End which was 15 years ago, so not really that rule bending.
