Deal dead in water according to Appleton , Who said " club went above & beyond to try & sign him"
Yes I agree. I'm actually pleased now that we're going for good targets. If they want too much and the Board have tried their best that'll do for me.Still trading on giant transfer fee
If we made him a decent offer and he refused, we move on
He should grab the opportunity to get playing again at a decent level
I highly doubt he is desperate.Ultimately this is a player that desperately needs a decent club and his options are likely running out.... He's not good enough to bust a gut for.. We're taking a chance on an out of form player in the latter stages of his career (he's in no position to be calling the shots)
Move on to someone who wants to play football
NoShould Ward be considered on a short term deal?
I’d rather have Ward than Drinkwater. At least he wants to be here and has shown a good attitudeShould Ward be considered on a short term deal?
Different types of player. It's what Appleton wants and what he can get the club to agree on. And with the names linked before and after the window closed he's after someone who can cope with that number 6 role if he can ever get a clear run at it with his 4-1-2-3 set up.I’d rather have Ward than Drinkwater. At least he wants to be here and has shown a good attitude
Attitude is all well and good, and of course it helps with team spirit. However, Ward when he gets injured they seem to be major, although he’s only had two they have both kept him out for over a year. He’s not getting any younger and any injuries are going to take longer to heal because of that. We don’t need to sign anymore walking wounded, which is why I’m far from impressed with Appleton signing Bridcutt. I know we haven’t signed him yet, but we will.I’d rather have Ward than Drinkwater. Club's certainly aren't rushing to sign him by the looks of it... His form has been poor... In footballing terms I'd say his situation looks pretty desperate to me.I highly doubt he is desperate.

he will be sat at home waiting for 40 grand a week off someone ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN lolHe's just come off a 100k a week contract no way he was dropping to the wages we pay.
They've tried to scattergun the last year of contract market and that hasn't worked so this is probably the next step to try and get a deal in lieu of a transfer fee. Appleton obviously pushing his board for help and trying to go into business for himself as he's not got what he wanted out of this summer.Slightly worrying that the club appeared willing to push the boat out and potentially break the wage structure for a player like Drinkwater whose best days are long behind him and has plenty of injury issues.
Same with Bridcutt, a past it pro who can’t stay fit and has had to drop to League One for the last 3 years. Very strange moves from the club in my opinion.

If it's all loans and frees from the mind of the manager we don't really need big salaried CEOs and HOFOs as layers of a structure to me, but hey ho.
Going back in for a third time to Oxford with Brannagan. Trying a couple of times with Sheffield Wednesday for Dele-Bashiru and then testing the water with Rotherham for Dan Barlaser to see if they'd take a fee before his contract is up. All attempts to strengthen in a position Appleton is still looking to fill now but with an out of contract player instead. What ?
He doesn’t want Ward, but he does want Bridcutt, just wait and see.Bridcutt 33 Ward 27
He was nowhere near match fit when played pre season.
Do not think Appleton wants him though

Appleton is like a leaky sieve when it comes to blurting out everything that's going on so would say so yepDid we go back in for B********?
I know that the Oxford Mail reported that we'd met the release clause, but that was on the same day that the new contract was announced, so I assume that was a prank planted by the player/agent/club, and doesn't necessarily mean that we were back in for him.
Spoke to a, Sunderland mateHe doesn’t want Ward, but he does want Bridcutt, just wait and see.
Righto.I watched Drinkwaters Sky interview where he talked about his personal issues, time at Chelsea etc. He appeared quite genuine in that he said something like “ Its not about the money now, it doesn’t make you happy “ Clearly he’s had a rethink !!!
Golden Gamble.Kenny Dougall and Kevin Stewart were in the same situation (abliet not been on huge wages at Chelsea) before they signed for us. Both were holding out for a move to a Championship club, when it didn't happen they ended up in League One with us. What's the betting Drinkwater is still without a club in a month's time and ends up in L1 on less money than we were offering him?
Ward got whacked twice winning bad passes in the reserve game yet he got up after treatment and played on. Deserves a chance .Attitude is all well and good, and of course it helps with team spirit.
