Modern cars have built in hands free, for the older car you can buy a Bluetooth handgrip kit for half thr price of the fine off rhe Rozzers.

Can't put a price on someone's life though
 
I see it everyday almost without fail. I don’t know how people think they can get away with it really it’s so obvious when you see people with their head down, you just know they’re reading a text or something although some are so brazen with it just driving along with their phone to their ear for all to see, makes my blood boil
 
Can we get rid of the massive smartscreens in cars nowadays as well?

They always look like someone's superglued a cheap tablet on to the dash anyway.

Also, while I'm at it, pointless motorway displays telling you such things as 'tired,take a break!' or how far it is to Widnes.

love the tired take a break on motorway so stop have a coffee a nap and go over your time limit and get hammered for a parking penalty

I have said it before, on top of a 6pt / £200 fine, a 50% penalty sanction should be imposed on your insurance for 3 years - for those who drive German built vehicles, this will hit their pockets hard but also it shows insurance companies see you more of a high risk driver.
Penalties need to be much harsher than they are as so many bigots still see themselves as invincible

I guess the difference is, you’re talking to a passenger and looking at the road ahead. Ok, we all have momentary lapses, that’s just human nature, but with mobiles, people are looking away, down, for long periods, covering big distances, and often this proves fatal!

You see people all the time looking down between their legs instead of ahead. It’s blatantly obvious what they’re doing. What is so important, that text message can’t wait?

The guy in the report was playing games, looking on Facebook and arranging a holiday with a family member.

He regrets every second of it now, and the worst thing, it was all so preventable!
 
I saw a woman, from the top deck of a bus, at the wheel of a BMW 4x4 on Saturday in Huddersfield, waiting at some traffic lights, feeding her face with her breakfast, drinking whatever and checking her phone. Unfortunately I couldn't see her number otherwise I would have reported her. Gross disregard for the highway code and for other road users and pedestrians. These people are hazardous when on the road.

They do it because they see their car as an extension of their lounge and a little bubble in which they are safe and can do whatever they please. Absolute pricks.

It’s a shame you’re not able to record and send in the video for conviction. Probably down to AI these days and been able to make people sing in photographs.

You’re right though, she’s a danger. Likely one day will be sat in interview for a serious injury or death by due care saying “I never thought this would happen to me, I only looked at it for a second!” Although that cough would be amazing and unheard of. ‘No Comment’ seems to be the advice!

Individual police forces each have their own portals for submitting footage of using a mobile, dangerous driving, driving without due care and attention, running a red light, etc.

That refers to dashcam footage, but they'll also take a video from a phone (taken by your passenger 😉).

All the massive electronic advertising boards with a million flashing lights
The massive advertising hoardings that show photos of missing persons and asking “have you seen such and such a body” went missing whenever.
Millions of road signs advertising businesses which I’m sure must be illegal.
These are all driving distractions and yet are totally acceptable.

Unless they ban them surely a big screen is less distracting than trying to zone in on a tiny screen?

I thought the numeric symmetry was something to be warmly admired!
 
massive smartscreens. my son wouldnt agree with that. he conducts business calls wether he is mobile or not. And it has a camera for parking purposes. And to avoid dickheads doing stupid stuff outside bloomers.

I’m not a fan of media for a number of reasons. That includes the aforementioned.

The problem you have with mobile phone evidence is showing it is the original media and hasn’t been edited.

Dash Cameras will show if it’s the original or copied and therefore you’ll have a realistic chance of conviction. I’ve used my dash cam previously on my way to work and it was successful. Before people start calling me a grass… I work on the motorway (and other roads) and see the devastation this shit causes!

No.REAL deterrent needed.
Advertise well in advance.
Get caught driving phone in hand , automatic 12 month ban.No ifs or buts.
Do it again, 5 year ban and vehicle crushed.
It's the only way to hurt the entitled for whom a couple of hundred quid means nothing.

I guess it’s just modern technology. You can’t watch anything whilst moving legally so I don’t think Tesla etc would allow anything other than touch screen. Even that is distracting but it’s down to the driver to use their common sense!
 
Offenders should be dragged out of their cars and shot in the head with the corpse left at the roadside as a warning to others.
