Early 70s clip of the town of Blackpool

Blackpool early 70s

I came across the above clip on You Tube. Didn't realise how many buried memories I had until I saw the clip! Not a stag or hen do in sight! Families everywhere! So much activity on the beach. Deckchairs! It's such a shame that so many people who live in the town today never saw it as a true holiday resort instead of a boozy weekend destination. The world moves on I suppose.

Cheap holidays abroad meant things had to change - but it's a lovely video on what appears to be a gorgeous day. Everything looked clean - but that might not have been the case and tidy didn't it.

OMG. that took me back.
Was there no bad weather in those days? 😉
One thing you wouldn't see today, a tram bombing along with the doors wide open.
Morty excellent clip, really liked that.

There's a link to a video from 1968 at the end which I found more interesting

Seeing Blackpool North how it was on video and Central (as a bingo hall) was interesting.

I started work under the Tower (Tower Cones) in 1970 during school hols and worked weekends and nights till 1984. The early and mid seventies were mental! Thousands on beaches - never stopped serving on sunny days between 1 and 4 ! Deckchairs also all sold out! We will never see those days again. Great times and memories

Well, that brings back memories for me! I worked on the beach from about the age of 15 (1970). I did a summer season on a "seafood barrow", two seasons on Naventi's ice-cream and later in life did a season on the trams. All quite interesting, in their own way.

As something to do in lockdown and to bring back memories for my Dad, I transferred all our Standard 8mm film onto digital. I have hours of Blackpool illuminations, the Manchester to Blackpool Vintage car run down the prom, Red Arrows and then Concorde flying down the Prom, plus loads of family stuff on the Prom etc.

They're great to watch

Ditto Normoss - I did two seasons on the Naventis vans ( probably '73 and '74). Towed out onto the sands and had to stay there even if it was a Monsoon and you got one customer in a day! £7.50 for the week. Great place for meeting girls though. Happy days.

Stick em on You Tube then Phil 👍

Such a shame that Blackpool is in the state that it's in today... not the only ex-picturesque seaside resort that has gone this way either.

The world changed, and so did the people and their values.

I never saw Blackpool at its best, born in '94, its always been like it is pretty much as far back as I can remember, maybe not SO bad in my childhood... definately got much worse in the last 10-15 (maybe more) years though.

I don't understand why they bulldozed a lot of the old infrastructure and cultural sights. There's fuck all left there now compared to what was!

https://historicengland.org.uk/imag...seaside-heritage/blackpools-seaside-heritage/ is a good book that explains a lot.

I might do that when I have a bit of time!
Please do! As I've got older I've realised how much I love the town and the memories it has given me. Would be fantastic to see the footage.

Would be happy to assist and am familiar with uploading footage to YouTube if that helps. 👍

Worked on a seafood barrow too, but 1959/60! between Central and North Pier.
Used to eat more than I sold but don’t tell the owner !

Get them on here Wiz. I remember the Concorde flight. I worked at back of the Foxhall then, my boss at the time let us nip to the prom watch the fly over.

Lewis, I actually had a part time job in the amusement arcade outside the Bingo Hall.
Great times.
Mrs Jean Mortenson worked on the entrance cash desk so Stan was a regular visitor.

A good little video that Morty and thanks for putting it up.

I don't want to get political but it is a shame that Blackpool didn't/couldn't move with the times.

Issues now but warts and all it's a great place.
