Is the North not the Mathews and the West the Mortensen.
No

Also, as mentioned already, imagine seeing that lettering at the top of each stand, a bit like the Sir Alex Ferguson stand letting at UTD as an example, but with maybe Ball on the east.

It would remind visiting fans of our proud history and some real legends and all time greats.

Absolutely! It's a no brainer!
Tbh I could live with it, a reminder of the best trip and the standard that was set, to aspire to again. It was one of the most unlikely and amazing achievements and we then got enough points to stay up most seasons, with a group of largely thrown together journeymen and a few stand out players.

It was unbelievable what he did.

The guy loves the club, you can see that here.

Got to be a king Billy suite in there seen as he moved his dugout to that side, so I'd probably sway to Ball or Smith Stand

An old chant from the 70s was "We've got Harry Thomson number one etc., up to number eleven, we've got the best team in the land!"

But this thread proves that some of the best fans in the land are mislead or bloody stupid!

Although Alan Suddick was the King and my favourite-ever Blackpool player and I loved the inspirational Billy Ayre, the new East Stand can only be named after our very own World Cup winner and that's my boyhood hero ALAN BALL!!!

The West is already the Stanley Matthews West and the North is the Stan Mortenson North Stand 👍🏻
So they are. Easy to forget as unlike at other grounds, you don’t see the name of the stand anywhere!
In that case, I definitely think the new East stand should be named after Brett. He did so much for us over the years.
Billy Ayre would also be a favourite for me but that was my time growing up with BFC and I love the guy.

No, things like naming stands should be completely down to legacy - achievements that transcend generations. I'd hardly say 1966 is ancient history either.

Armfield = longest serving player, England captain ect. (could make an argument for World Cup winner, he received a medal eventually)
Morty = FA Cup winner, only player to ever score a hattrick in an FA cup final
Matthews = FA Cup winner, legend of the game, Ballon d'Or winner

Only valid shouts for me are people that compare with those achievements. That's Alan Ball, Harry Johnstone and Joe Smith pretty much.
It's almost 60 years ago.

You're obviously an old codger. 😉

Legacy needs to be Blackpool legacy. Who did most for Blackpool? If say Holloway and Ormerod are up there. Success in much more difficult and much more recent times. Huge enthusiasm and love for the club. They could even show up to the opening of the stand.

My heart says Billy Are because he's a hero to me (it's an age thing)

But it has to be Alan Ball.
my feelings really

I will always associate Billy with that stand as at the time i stood in the south paddock and he'd run across in front of us and punch the air as he made his way to a seat on a temporary style bench

However, Alan Ball was a great and MOM in the only world cup final England have every won whilst he was a Blackpool player

I'd go as far to say if there are people knocking about who still remember it, it ain't ancient history.

It was 30 years before I was born! As I said in an earlier post, Billy Ayre was manager before I was even born.

I can see the argument for Ormerod to be fair, would be great to have a day where he can actually attend the opening of it. Having 3 stands dedicated to the FA cup winners might be us clinging to that part of our history a little too much (even though its our greatest achievement). I may be swayed to Ormerod or Alan Ball then, as we'd have two FA Cup winners, our longest serving player and a world cup winner/player who scored in all four divisions for us and put us in the Premier League.

I do think Joe Smith needs some form of commemoration at the ground regardless, not necessarily a stand but something to honour his achievements.

The Joe Smith stand.

Shouldn't even be a question. The most successful manager in our history. The ONLY manager to win us a major domestic honour. The only manager to lead us to finish runners up in the league title race. He also must be our longest serving manager?
