Elliot Embleton

Just been recalled by Sunderland from Derby, potentially with the view to loaning him somewhere else…

I remember his spell differently. We had nobody that could play between the lines and he succeeded where other recruits failed, namely Ben Woodburn. Was a vital piece of the jigsaw in our promotion season. Obviously, needs to play in the right position.
You expect Critchley to play anybody in their correct position?

Not really. Was vital in many other ways, particularly in helping us develop through the middle of the pitch, something we had been desperately missing before he arrived.

Was a big reason we got promoted in the end.
He was pretty anonymous in reality and apart from a couple of good goals, he was average at best.

Selective memory there methinks. He was a regular starter and contributed a great deal. Pretty anonymous in the play off final but played out of position as Simms was crocked.

"The midfielder joined the Rams in September, but after suffering a thigh injury after two games, he underwent surgery before returning to Wearside to complete his rehabilitation.

With the January transfer window now open, Embleton has formally returned to the Club as he continues his comeback to full fitness."

I dare you to watch any of those games back and any we won well and come back to me on it.
He was bang-average and like Critchley this time who has too many favourites and he was one back then too.
People are conditioned into believing that a player is doing well because they always play, but I tend not to get sucked into that trap.

He plays in the unglamorous work horse position, so doesn't attract attention. He did a fine job for us.

I thought Embleton was very good for us with the potential to be excellent. Pretty sure Sunderland thought so too when he first went back, because they rated him from what I saw and read and picked him regularly until he started getting injured.

Doubt he's coming here though.
