England Squad....

Where’s bendit?
Here I am TB. Southgate is an absolute pleb. Henderson was cr@p in Saudi and has been getting a lot of bad reviews in Holland too.

He offers absolutely nothing on the playing field except for boring negativity and lack of skill. The only thing of a positive nature is that he's a positive presence within the team setup.

The sooner that Southgate goes for me the better.

Numbnuts Southgate drops Phillips (correctly) because he's out of form.

Yet Henderson has been inept in Saudi and has been derided by a lot of fans at Ajax for his lack of skill and negativity (and his backpassing), but he gets picked by the genius that's our England Manager.

I don’t get it either 🤷‍♂️

Delighted to see Branthwaite in the squad, the down side he's also included Gomez and McGuire. No Mainoo but Backpass gets in? WTF?

Put it this way, ask Man Utd if they'd swap Mainoo for Henderson and see what they'd say, enough said.

It's all about balance. Personally I think it's time to move on from Henderson though. I guess if Phillips had kicked on at West Ham, it would have been Jordan missing out.

I wouldn't trust a Rag. Man Utd are poor, Mainoo has potential but needs to prove himself a little more. I'd prefer to bend Connor Bradley's Irish ear and see if he fancies actually going to a major tournament. 😁

Well at least one his favourites has rightly been dropped due to poor form - Kalvin Phillips.

Henderson was always going to be included and you just know he will start the first game at the Euros instead of going with something like Rice/Bellingham/Foden as the midfield 3.

With the talent we have we should be winning the Euros this summer, but we all know with negative Southgate we won’t.

Too much focus on this thread on someone who will be a bit part player come the Euros if selected.
So many positives in that squad and if you care about your country at international level that would be naturally what you would get excited about instead of moaning and being negative. For what it's worth I wouldn't select Henderson any more even though I've appreciated his worth in the past. I honestly wish we had the Scots and other countries passion for supporting the national team instead of whinge whinge whinge.

I was born in 1969, Southgate is by far the most successful manager England have had in my lifetime.

I just don't get the hate. Makes no sense to me.
It's because he's not your usual meat and potato chest beating 442 kind of manager, he's also a bit wokey in the eyes of the gammon majority on here.

They'll respond that it's not true and they find his football boring, which is bollocks.

Because like for like he’s had one of the best squads around at the time and relatively easy draws.

Some of the talent we have and some of the big boys of the past I.e Brazil, Holland, Germany etc are no where near the levels they were a decade or two ago and he hasn’t capitalised on that.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we will look down the line back at the Southgate era and be baffled he won nothing with the talent he has and the weakened field against him compared to previous years.

Another reason for the “hate” is his selection of certain players no matter what, what happened to the “they’ll be picked on form” bollocks he spouted once.

And don’t give me the “they’ve never let him down” pathetic line, they’ve not won anything either….

Apart from Le Tournoi we've not won anything since 1966.
Southgate has got nearer than anyone in changing that - and for what it's worth Venables and Hoddle were better managers.

Rice first pick in CM. I don't think he had much choice but to pick Henderson ahead of Phillips as second choice holding CM.
Just because he's picked him doesn't mean he'll play.

Were the 2018 and 2021 squads really that spectacular? Compared to the 86, 90, 98 etc..squads. It's become a bit of a weird 'fact' with little to qualify it.

One maybe two world class players? The line up for the 96 semi had half a dozen players that would get picked now, Seaman, Adams, Pearce, Gazza, Shearer, Sheringham...that's not including the likes of Ince, Platt and Mcmanaman.

Southgate was a penalty shootout away from winning a major trophy , a shootout we were actually leading at one-point. You can't get any closer.
You completely disregard opposition as if there's nothing to beat at the moment or in recent times. There are always strong nations and good players. It's not a weak field it's incredibly hard as it's always been to win something and to only get one chance every two years in a knockout format.
We might have a golden generation of attacking players but we don't have one for defenders. That's where we might struggle. It's completely disregarded in the whole England are world beaters but the manager is holding us back bollocks.

Spot on that.

Agree, too many whingers on here, all over one player and barely a mention for the rest of the squad. Mainoo is still only 18 isn't he? If he's good enough hell get his chance. Wouldn't rule out him being a wild card for the Euros. Throughout the squad though there is a huge amount of talent, which bodes very well for the Euros. At the risk of sounding like the whinging numpties though I don't rate Bowen.

Back again to Backpass..... Southgate and him shouldn't be anywhere near influencing this team of young talent.

if you want Henderson's influence, put him on the coaching staff not the pitch. He's negative and takes up a place from some player who can actually pass a ball and score.

Even Dutch media and ex players have got wise to Henderson.

"Former Tottenham Hotspur and Netherlands midfielder Rafael van der Vaart offered a brutal verdict on Henderson last month: “They signed players with zero quality. They have brought in Jordan Henderson, who passes sideways and backwards all the time. That doesn’t make anyone happy.”

I watched Villa v Ajax last night and Henderson was completely anonymous. Just ran around chasing the ref and arguing with him everytime he made a correct decision.

Englands midfield for the Euros should be Bellingham, Rice & Foden.

Surprised that Tomori at Milan isn’t selected as, IMO, he is a better defender than Maguire, Dunk, Konsa & Gomez.

The difference is compare the squads of other nations between then and now, as I mentioned on my previous post some of the bigger boys were much better in the years you mentioned.

Against the mighty Italy that couldn’t even qualify for the next major tournament.

Henderson is clearly not in the squad for his current form so I guess it’s about keeping some experienced heads in the dressing room. With TAA missing as well as Phillips we are short in midfield but I would have liked to see Gibbs-White getting a call up.

Personally I would have Pope instead of Ramsdale who is mostly benched at The Arse. Branthwaite is class and finally we might be able to dump slab head . No Mings this time.

Forwards are exciting with plenty of quality though through Foden, Kane and Saka. Rashford though is a bit of a Henderson pick based on his current form.
