. Dear oh dear, shocking right from the start. Worse than the Pool today?
France look to have two or three real stars though.

Agree Bull. I never miss the Six Nations, nor did I miss the 5 Nations before that but today I turned over at half time and watched the football. For a Seasider who loves rugby and watches all England games today has been another absolute shit show.
Borthwick has come in as coach and if anything they've gone backwards after sacking Eddie Jones, we play Ireland away next week and if today is anything to go by we'll be shipping another 50 plus points.
WTF is happening.
Yes it's odd, the Gallagher Premiership is a simply brilliant league with exciting games every week yet the National side is going backwards, funny enough the two top sides in the Six Nations Ireland and France have got English coaches leading the way, there was no way of knowing that Andy Farrell would do as well as he's done with Ireland but we should never have missed out of Shaun Edwards as defensive maestro, he's turned French rugby around in no time.Agree Bull. Jeez, I thought we were bad today but England were dire and on that showing today they may as well not bother turning up for the World Cup.
England could quite conceivably get to the semis by winning their group (in which Argentina and Japan are the strongest teams) and probably beating Wales in a QF. Doesnât require a big leap of imagination. What a bloody awful day, if we look at it from a âpool and England RU perspective.
I expected two defeats. On a freaky day, Jerry and Sonny might have rescued a point. However, fortune is not smiling on us. Iâm bracing myself for the âThreadâ of a âRetainedâ list. It wonât be a long one.
As for the RU, I expected a French victory but not by that margin. Everything they did came off. We were ruthlessly punished for every mistake, eg the hand touching down through the maul. France currently have a much larger pool of good players (that was their second choice front row!!!!!) and theyâre extremely well coached. Perhaps better than theyâve ever been. And, maybe their league is better organised than ours to deliver a better product. I expect the Boks and Kiwis will be more advanced in their planning than us. Add Ireland and thereâs your semis.
I wonât disagree with you because I havenât seen the groups.England could quite conceivably get to the semis by winning their group (in which Argentina and Japan are the strongest teams) and probably beating Wales in a QF. Doesnât require a big leap of imagination.
Only two of Ireland France SA and NZ can get to the semis because they are on one side of the draw and will play each other in 2 QFs (although there is scope for an upset by Scotland in the group which has Ireland and SA in it).
As things go, you would expect whoever comes through the harder side of the draw to win the two semis. But they will have played much harder games, and if they are injury hit you couldnât rule out an England win.
One half of the draw and likely quarter finalists to play each other: England Australia / Wales or Fiji/ Argentina or JapanI wonât disagree with you because I havenât seen the groups.
My judgement of the RU World Cup is based on what Iâve seen from the November series and the 6 Nations. If it could be a France-Ireland final, then they deserve it. Yes, Ireland did beat France 2(?) weeks ago and No I didnât see it.
âScope for a Scotland upsetâ? If they play like they did in Paris, why not?
What will the Boks or the All Blacks have in store? By tradition, anyone beating them would win it. Australia? No. Theyâre in the same position as us. The rest are making up the numbers.
France have always had good backs and front rows. It now looks like theyâve got a good back five too. I canât recall them ever having such good players in all fifteen shirts. So, Iâm back to France (their best ever team) against Ireland ( their best ever team).
Yes. I watched that too. It re-enforces my fear that French rugby is getting itâs act together. The U-20 team lost 42-7 to France on Friday evening as well. The futures's not so bright
