ENGLAND VS INDIA - 2nd TEST

Crawley's rush of blood is to blame for the "collapse." He had the Indians on the back foot with his controlled aggression. By giving his wicket away exposed our fragile middle order - a nervy Pope and an out of form Root. If he'd've carried on his innings in the way he started Bumrah might not have been able to dominate. Big day tomorrow.

Looks like we’ve all given up on this thread given the way things are going?

Anyway just tuned in hoping to see India bowled out in their second innings but hey we can all dream.

India currently 211/5 we’ve just got Gill on a review for a catch for 104.

India lead by 354 runs think this one is already over if they declared now. 😭

Agreed, the main difference between to the two sides is Bumrah, he demolished our middle order and he will be licking his lips at having another go in the second innings. Looks like we'll be chasing 400 plus batting last, not a cat in hells chance of that happening. Also even without three top batsmen India can still put a big score on the board such is their depth of talent especially when you play them in the sub continent.

We’ll give it a go though.

Another wicket another on review.

How could the umpire not give that LBW as clear as you could get? 🤷‍♂️

That’s 2 wicket on the bounce now both on reviews.

Pointless selecting Hartley who hasn't proved anything other than average at County level.
We will do well to avoid a 5-0 thrashing.

This view of Hartley is looking increasingly prescient.

Meanwhile

Highest ever run chase in India to win it.

The fact that we are even contemplating it shows how far this team have come.

I tend to agree with @hertfordseasider all or nothing.

We need some discipline and a few really good partnerships.

Come on!

We'll have to almost double our record run chase in India, so it's extremely unlikely. But it's not all bad, England have played pretty well in the series so far. We just bowled India out for 255, in India, on what they said was a good batting pitch. The spinners doing well again. There are plenty positives.

Bookies have us as low as 11/2 to win. With that massive run chase and away in India batting last you’d expect that to be 10/1 or higher.

Just shows as you say. 👍

It'll get harder when Kohli and Rahul return for the next 3 Tests. Miracles sometimes happen and both Eng & BFC need one.

One can but hope. Realistically, if we get anywhere near 300 we will have done extremely well in a 4th innings in India and with Bumrah playing so well.

Heard Gough say on Talkshite2 that Hartley could be the England spinner cos he can bat and field.

With that attitude DG must be nailed on as a selector sometime soon 😂

The highest run chase against India when they're at home is just 276 by the West Indies.

Sure we'll give it a go but there's no chance of us chasing 400 down batting fourth, especially with Bumrah in the form he is in plus their excellent spin attack.

1-1 and they have Koli and Rahul back and we may have Brook back for the third Test.

Who would we drop for Brook? Tricky one I think, given that Bairstow seems to be undrinkable. I think we'll probably lose tomorrow, but it shows how far we've come under Stokes that we could even consider the possibility of a win.

Will you be up to watch mate?

Take your pick, Root and Bairstow are not exactly tearing up trees, in saying that it's difficult to throw Brook in straight off the aeroplane with no batting under his belt, maybe introduce him in the fourth Test after he's acclimatised.

We're only chasing 399 though, with only 332 runs required today!🏏🤞

Should be a piece of piss RB!👍😊

Looks like game over as once again the much feared Bumrah and Aswin remove the middle order before lunch.
Think you're right there now, with five wickets falling before lunch.

A great slip catch to get rid of Pope, an uncontrolled slog across the line to leg from a frenetic Root dancing down the track and skied to the off, plus three scabby LBWs - it's just not gonna be our day.😡

Is Brook actually coming back though?

Frustrating this. We could make 300 and I'm not sure that's ever been done 4th innings. But we could be even closer, batsmen getting in then out. Stokes was dozing a bit there

Another giveaway wicket there from Foakes.

The end is nigh.

Edit
And it is all over India win by 106 runs.

Not sure but I recall he originally was going home and missing the first two Tests.

I suppose it depends on the circumstances he went home for and the current situation with that.

I hope he's back because a few of the middle order are not doing the business and need challenging.

Root appears to be a fixture, regardless of form.

Agreed, but we can't afford to have any players who are not performing if we are to have any chance of winning a series in India.

Root is averaging 13 in this series, that's simply not good enough.

I thought he went back for the whole series and the Indian guys were back for the third test.

Anyway we shall see - as you say we could definitely do with the competition!

I think the ECB have left the door open to a possible return so we may see him back but it looks unlikely it will be for the third Test.

Usually when something like this happens it is because of an illness in the family back home so i guess it depends on the circumstances whether or not we see him return to the tour.

It wouldn't be in my side at the moment. Rushed back for the 50 overs, with no form and the obvious happened.
