England will WIN the Euros

Interesting how Gary, Roy and Ian summed up England's chances of winning, based on tight defence and not conceding and by snatching a goal or 2. Different approach maybe. Saying everyone wants goals goals goals but England are being a tight unit. Interesting thought

Not convinced we are a tight unit at the back, a lucky one perhaps.

I really don't think our defence will be rock solid against the better sides. I don't think we have good enough defenders (or keeper) to be basing our approach on being tight at the back. If and when Germany or France or Ronaldo puncture us at the back our lack of attacking instinct will render us impotent and we will exit the competition looking like a bunch of eunuchs who regret having the op.

England have reached the point expected from their level of ability. Any further progress in this tournament should be viewed as a bonus.

Football is a weird game. I watched the match last night with a mate who is a big Spurs fan, and I commented that Kane can look like a Real Madrid player, and generally does, in a Spurs shirt, but he can also look like a Stevenage Boro player, at times. I had to explain what that meant, but he then agreed!

For me, the England problem is all in the mind. If you enter the whole thing with a cagey, safety first approach, the attacking players are in two minds, holding back, passing back, and the whole thing becomes feeble. Positivity is the right approach. Unless you are Italy in the 70s, or Argentina in the 60s, and you take the rock hard, kick everything that moves approach. Or you have Maradona up front, and everyone else just destroys. We look all polite and feeble and about to be blown away by a gust of wind.

We will not win the competition as we don’t have the required swagger, we go into our shell after about 20 minutes. Need to be more positive and whilst we have the potential it’s just not our way, rather play it safe and just lose than go for it.

Which brings us back to the NZ weightlifter again.
