EPL gravy train (sic)

Now all the EPL clubs have submitted accounts for 22/23, the overall figures (courtesy of Maguire) are interesting :

  • revenue £6.1 billion (up 11%)
  • operating losses : £1.23 billion (up 44%)
  • player purchases : £3.0 billion (up 57%)
  • player sales : £0.98 billion (up 17 %)
  • transfer debt: £3.0 billion (up 62%)

In summary we have here a League that partly justifies not raising the share of broadcasting revenue going the EFL on the grounds that it is worried that it will just lead to an increasing spiral in unsustainable spending - itself generating a massive rise in operating losses and spending.

Yawn......................

No answer then. No change there.....
I've just been to Asda to ask if they can share some of their profits with Mr Smith and his small corner shop as they can't order as much milk as Asda

No joy so I'm on my way to Wetherspoons to ask if they can donate some beer to my local independent pub who can't compete on price

And if all that doesn't work I'm going to contact Mr Musk on Twitter to see if he can pay my mortgage off as he has more money than me

Will let you know my findings

Is that really the best you can do?

Yep surly the clubs need to live within their means, how long can any kind of organisation exist operating on such expenditures and making such losses?? The mind boggles! In any other business they would go pop within months! The general laws of business and economics simply just don’t seem to apply to football. It has to come crashing down sooner or later

Football needs a reset ,I blame Johnny Haynes . 😉

Could be easily sorted with a player wage cap. Might help even things out too. No idea why this hasn’t happened yet.

Doesn’t matter if they don’t but they would probably follow suit anyway.
Would give young English players more of a chance if some of the mercenaries disappeared anyway.
They wouldn't they'd just mop up the best talent there more greedy than us with the purse split.

Imagine any other real world businesses being run in the same way, how long would they last with the same ratio of income/outgoings...
The problem is that so many businesses are run in the same manner, Uber, Tesla, most of the Tech bro companies in fact. Modern finance theories might even suggest the EPL is under debted.

It makes no sense to me either.
