Euro 2024

I'm super excited about the Euros this summer. Most of the English players have all had brilliant seasons, which hopefully they can take into the international scene. My question is, what would you starting 11 be and what formation would you play? Mine is a 4-1-3-2 and my starting Lene up would be;
Pickford

Walker/Trippier
Shaw
Stones
Maguire

Rice

Foden
Grealish
Saka

Kane
Bellingham

So where you would play Grealish? A left winger who can't cross the ball with his left foot. A player who slows down every attack by cutting back onto his right foot. A player who falls over every time he's tackled.

I'd like to see Cole Palmer given a chance behind Kane or maybe Watkins and Kane together with Bellingham and Foden behind them and Saka on the right.
This is as good an England squad as any since 1970 except for the left back/centre-half roles, which I hope can be resolved before June.

Walker, Stones, Maguire & Shaw

Mainoo, Rice & Bellingham

Bowen, Kane & Foden

A lot of energy & quality in that 10, but Bowen will probably not start. He’ll probably go with Saka.

T Rex
Walker Stones Konza Trippier

Trent
Rice
Bellingham.

Foden Kane Rashford

Rashford is my weird one. He’s pants in a United shirt but has been a real threat on the left for England.

I’d like to see both Saka and Foden but again Foden on the right for City has been unplayable. Maybe you could deploy Foden on the left but it negates his cut inside and score ability.

We’ve a lot of options up in attacking midfield positions and so many names you can throw in. Up front it’s about who covers Kane. I’d have Toney ahead of Watkins just because he’s a bloody handful and a good plan B

If Trent not fit enough to pull the strings in the 6 then let Mainoo loose in there

If you're excited, which you should be, then I'm sure some of AVFTT's management gurus will temper that for you by explaining how Southgate is a terrible manager and is ruining our greatest team ever.

I wouldn't have Rashford in the squad to be honest, he seems to be a sulking misery who disappears when it's not going his way and falls out with team mates.

I'd go Toney and Kane with Foden behind.

One things for certain, Klopp or Pep would make better use of the outstanding talent we’ve had over the past years. Southgate creates his own criticism, no sympathy whatsoever.

Like that option.

Rashford is potentially what Sterling was. Maybe I haven’t watched Man U closely enough to see how far his game has fallen then?

Me neither, just don't like him to be honest!

Toney would be a good wildcard and could take the vital penalties over Kane for me who's bottled a couple now.

Some interesting selections on here guys, but you do realise we are allowed a keeper!!

If Southgate is picking on form the lies of Rashford shouldn't be anywhere near the squad, McGuire is slow, cumbersome and a liability against the top strikers in Europe.

Right now I'd go for a 3-2-4-2 formation of Pickford, Walker, Stones, Konsa, Rice, Mainoo, Saka, Foden, Bellingham, Palmer, Kane, Watkins.

You've no midfield in that line up and would get totally overrun.
Put Bellingham in the 8 role which he'll be playing next season when Mbpappe signs for Real Madrid anyway,Foden as the 10 and you've a decent team

I’d don’t think we’d get away with that.

He likes Maguire for set pieces though, we've not really got that elsewhere have we?

You always get one who spoils it…we’re gonna piss the euros…..foden, Bellingham, Kane ..world beaters…..😁

That's 12 Raging, good if we can get away with it!

Pickford

Walker Stones McGuire Shaw

Rice Bellingham

Saka Foden Grealish/Gordon

Kane

PS Cole Palmer very unlucky not to be in the starting line up.

These international finals are never the same when we don't get promotion.
Could even offer a rueful smile when Lampard's effort was disallowed as we were going to the Prem.
This season however.....

I wouldn't take Ivan Toney to Germany. What has he got this season? 4 goals in 13 games? He's a long way behind Ollie Watkins going into the Euros (19 goals). Watkins has everything an England striker needs. And IT's dodgy gambling activities are hardly fitting for an England centre forward.

I like his nous though and his goal scoring record is better than Watkins in a worse team, literally no one outside the FA cares about the gambling.

Me you have to be English to play for your country or kind of so the manager should be the same.
No foreign manager has ever won the world for any country cup says it all.
I suppose we'd better pick from the plethora of world class English management talent then.

Ah so it's ok for you to not like Rashford but others are "negative" for not liking Southgate?

Bellingham should be the only person behind Kane and allowed to do whatever he wants, one of the best on the planet should be given freedom to do that. Cole Palmer outside of penalties has average returns this season.

Foden and Saka either side. Rice and Mainoo in the middle.

Grealish has good numbers and provides something different to think about.

Amazing that of all the suggested line-ups on this thread only Raging and myself have included Palmer. He's England's Kevin De Bruyne and Southgate would be an idiot to omit him.

Foden has to be the first name on the sheet. Probably the best English player since Gasgoine.
I don't agree that he is. Foden is nowhere near the level of Gaza, he's good at city but I'm not convinced he'd do as well at Palmer has at Chelsea. Foden has been fairly average for England.

The only two things for me are McGuire for anyone and I am not sure Shaw will be fit or match ready.
I agree, however I'm struggling to find a trusted alternative to McGuire and he's a threat at set pieces.

I went with an "if all fit" approach, hopefully Shaw will be, if not then for me it's Trippier on the left, don't rate Chilwell massively.

Where's Scott Darton when you need him 🤣
