Evatt/Holloway

Evatt and Thommo, would be a good shout. The added benefit would be fans would trust them and get behind them from the start. For anybody new, its going to take time to build trust after what happened.
Both have done really well for is in the past. Ian Evatt may feature in the future, but for now as we should be able to do better.

Agree Evatt abd Thommo would be good combination. I state in a previous post that I think Thommo shows (from his summariser input) a sound knowledge of the game. He is tactically astute and knows what he wants and expects from players, in order to develop and get the best out of them. Olly was in many ways lucky inheriting the squad that he did. His major plus point was his ability to motivate and inspire them to (in some cases) over achieve. I too fail to see that happening twice.

I think I'd actually prefer Keith Southern and Thommo. I always like listenning to Keith and feel he's a good manager in the making.

I don't get the Holloway thing....in his last job he totally destroyed Grimsby. Evatt is his own man and very much in the Manager category rather than Head Coach bracket like NC. So Evo and Thommo would make perfect sense if the club want to change tack and go to the traditional Manager/Assistant route.

However, will SS want to tear up the 5-year plan and abandon the idea of having a highly qualified coach? If not then someone like David Unsworth who has the coaching and Everton Academy background partnering with Keith Southern as his assistant would be an interesting option.

Looking further afield then the previously mentioned Liam Manning would be a good fit given his record of developing young players. However, he might view staying at MK Dons and gaining more experience as the better option at this time.

I know Keith Southern would be open to a management role, he told me so in person a couple of years ago. Assistant role would be a decent start point to build his experience. He talks a lot of sense and has the right football philosophy.

What do people think of Gary Bowyer coming back? Lots of experience coaching at youth and academy level, championship management experience, pragmatic, did a good job here before. Nice bloke too.

every time ive heard GTF doing commentary at blackpool games he comes across as a good analyst of the game. watched Bangor a few times when he was manager and they played some decent football.

probs too obvious a call. and little experience in developing players

Bolton fan in peace here.
I'm surprised many of you wouldn't have Evatt as your first choice. (not just based on this thread)

Young, progressive manager who has been club captain for you in the PL. Been shitting myself last few days but relieved to hear that you've made an approach for Duff.

Think most bolton fans would class Evatt as our biggest asset and so seeing him as favourite for the Blackpool job was a sickener. Michael Duff has worked wonders at Cheltenham though and if I were a Blackpool fan I'd be happy with that appointment, if it comes to fruition.

I’d happily drive to Bolton and pick him up for his interview and pack up his office for him. Although I believe he lives local to us still so wouldn’t be a long drive 😂!

He is my number 1 choice by a country mile, with Thommo as his assistant.

I've heard that he lives in Chesterfield, so I was more concerned if Derby came in for him. According to Wikipedia he supports Coventry though, so they are another one I was concerned about. Blackpool finally as he had probably his most successful playing career with you.

No doubt there's a few who are like you and would have him as their first or second choice at least but honestly, he's the best we've had since Big Sam, so we're all very keen to keep hold of him.

My girlfriend's dad is a Blackpool fan so I keep an eye on your situation and couldn't believe NC left how he did. Hoping that Evatt is more committed than that as it seems words are meaningless!

I heard it had moved back to the fylde coast when he got the Barrow job and assumed he stayed when moving to you guys. Someone also confirmed he was Lytham based only yesterday. I wouldn’t imagine he’d still be in chesterfield and commute to Bolton but could be wrong.

The way NC has left us is a disgrace in my opinion with what he has said, how he seemed to love the club and how much he understood us and the town. I’d understand why Evatt would leave you to come to us, with him having a connection with us and a league higher. It would make sense. You could argue the club sizes would be a reason not to move but that’s about it.

From how we want to play and the style of manager we want, he is the best option for me. He has the experience he lacked when he was previously linked before NC, and I feel now is the time for him. Time will tell if it happens but it all seems quiet on him at the minute. Saying that, nothing coming out other than Duff currently so that’s nothing to go by.

Don't fret, Evatt won't be leaving Bolton.

I'm sure you will think of your reasons for why he WOULD leave us, and I will think of my reasons for why he WOULDN'T. That's just going to be our natural bias. As a counter argument to what you said...

Evatt did say this not long ago:

And we aren't the basketcase we have been for many years. His relationship with the board, players and fans is strong. But I suppose you would have said the exact same thing about NC.

I think he will stay with us for another season for the project he's built, but I would really worry if we lost in the play-offs and then Championship clubs started calling. I know he has been promoted from every division as a player, maybe his aim would be to be the first to do it as both a manager and a player. Haha I'm clutching at straws with that one though.

He's a quality manager and he will go far, with or without Bolton. He's made a few mistakes but the pros far outweigh the cons.

Only time will tell I guess, but I think we have a strong reason why we would want him and you to keep him 😂!

Based on the above comments he made, it would be bad for him to leave however NC was saying similar only a matter of weeks before he did the dirty. He is being paid by Bolton so he can’t exactly come out with a “Come and get me” statement can he?

Hes not going to say different though is he

Exactly, it's not dissimilar to what NC was saying about being in the infancy of his journey with you, so it has to be taken with a pinch of salt. I'm just offering a counter argument as a view from the other side. You could also say, he didn't have to say anything. A lot of managers don't. It's quite strongly worded saying concretely "I'm not interested in any other job". It is slightly different to what NC was saying about being 'excited' about the journey...
As I say, I'm bias anyway so I will think of reasons why he wouldn't leave but I still think there's a decent chance he would.

I don't think it's necessarily as simple as you being in a higher division though either. The Blackpool playing career makes the link stronger. We'll see what happens. I'm probably more worried than a lot of Bolton fans who think there's no way he would take the Blackpool job.

Evatt's on holiday with his family at the moment anyway, so I doubt there will be any news on him until next week.

None of the above, let's not dwell in the past.
This is an argument I don't understand.
For Holloway sure, but I don't think that sort of comment would apply to Evatt.

It's not like a Bolton fan saying, let's get Big Sam back. I generally agree that decisions made off sentiment are not decisions made for the right reasons but if Evatt had no Blackpool history he would still have a very promising CV that would make him ideal to be your next manager

Evatt would be decent to be fair

Its no wonder he plays such an attacking type of football given his previous gambling habits though
