Ever been sacked ?

.... I work in the building trade ... seen many people "potted" but I've never been sacked ... resigned my commission a few times

I got sacked while in hospital. Ok I had crashed the van and destroyed about 2k of products. The van was a write off as were the two cars I’d smashed into and all 9 people in the two vehicles claimed injuries.

I walked out on a job not long after we had a bomb threat in the shop I worked at.
We as staff didn't know it was going on at the time.

There was a load of police about in the store looking through bags and our managers told us that they were "Christmas shopping", there was no evacuation for staff and customers were allowed to shop and walk around as normal.

We only knew after it happened from word of mouth from colleagues who worked in that department, thankfully it was a hoax.

Been made redundant due to company takeovers twice. First one was pretty brutal, marched off site without being able to get my coat (literally!). It was my first proper job, one minute I had a job, 30 minutes later I was sat in the pub texting my mate to fetch me my coat and wondering what the hell happened and how I would explain to my mum that I didnt do anything wrong! 🤣

Second time was a very welcome pay off that I stuck around for 6 months in the hope it would come.

Swings and roundabouts I guess!

As a serious job never been sacked but after 17 years in one job I knew that changes were afoot and it was more about when for me so I resigned and got a deal out of them

Made redundant, resigned, never sacked. Felt like being sacked in last job but just get on with it. Life is what it is, make what you can if it. Some people try and make it more complicated.

A long, long time ago I got sacked before I had even started! Looking back I should have claimed for some compensation because what they did was probably illegal.

Got caught with some wacko tobacco in Colombo,Sri Lanka Christmas Eve 1975. I was a junior engineer on a British flagged ship.
Thoroughly deserved.

Sacked from a paper round as a useless lazy teenager, but never as an adult. Made redundant twice, the latter leading to an early retirement, a move back home to the north and the chance to see Pool at home every other weekend.

Nope.

But amazed how many in the civil service have been sacked for various reasons (and they are waste of space so no loss) and they appeal and get back in. It really is incredible as it all starts again... worst is someone got sacked twice but then during covid applied and got in at a higher grade than previous.... anyway sacked 3rd time wtf!!!

i got made redundant because the lad working with me the who was on the old YTS scheme told a member of staff we went to watch the pool on the Saturday when we should of been out working in the van

Sacked from Man City club shop for ‘not turning up to work’.

I was at Blackpool vs Blackburn, exactly where I told them I’d be when they tried to get me to work their match day.

They didn’t have a proper conversation with me, just ignored my calls until I got the message.

Had the same and had Tam look after the details for me which I am forever grateful. The first one I took really personally as I had grafted my nuts off for them and could not reconcile why. Only years later I can say shit happens and just understand you are just a number. Second time was another company shift in direction, nice payoff and straight into a better job. Change is constant and you cannot get too emotionally attached, it happens, daily

Yes twice, first job aged 16/17 for being a cocky disinterested ** and last job for tbh a bit similar reasons but it stung after 24 years of making the company a shit ton of money and I was only trying to help them get better but they clearly didn’t want to hear it, anyway fuck it, lead to early retirement and ** off abroad😎

Yeah I’m exactly the same. I was young then and just didn’t get it and looking back it definitely shook my confidence. Now, I know companies do what they do (see P&O or Twitter as examples) and I’m more resilient and pragmatic. There are other companies out there and some are better than the one you’re at now so change is as much an opportunity as a problem!

Never been sacked, but have sacked a few and have also told one guy where to stick his job, sideways. I was however once made redundant and had 9 months of misery looking for a new job. Too old, too well qualified and so on.

Never been sacked.
Started working life in the Post Office (Telegram Boy it was called).
Did 40 years in various Departments, ending as a Customs Officer at Luton Airport, then 2 years at Exeter Airport.
MrsDP was working still so I saw a Job advertised for a 'Civilian Warrants Officer' with Bedford Police.
Apparently 60 applicants, I got the job and did 8 years, finishing at 64 y.o.
A Warrants Officer went out arresting people on various types of Warrant. Ex Police will know that.

I was thrown out of Uni after a year. They said they’d get back to me with a decision as to whether I could continue and still haven’t heard. That was 1988.

Got sacked for going to a funeral of an ex employee who had fallen out with the directors when a young lad. Told not to go, I thought feck you.

I still can't get my head around football managers... utter shite... get sacked.. Nice pay off and then most walk into another job... and repeat.

Incredible it goes on.

Took on a promotion I sort of knew was beyond my ability but who says no to money? I ended up a gibbering alcoholic wreck but apart from that it went well. Karma for all the people I sacked... that is to say 'managed out of the business'... Only ever worked on short term contracts messing with computer servers ever since can't take pressure any more.

I took a job in Australia during my backpacker days. They asked me at the interview if I would commit to a minimum of 6 months. I knew I wouldn't get the job without saying yes but had planned for about 4 months in my own mind. After about 3 months I confided in someone I would probably leave after 4. They snitched to the boss who took it very badly and promptly fire me on the spot!

Her face was a picture of confusion when instead of being annoyed, I immediately realised I was free to set off on my travels around Australia earlier than expected so responded with a face-wide grin, thanked her for my release and told her my travel plans to see Australia.

I've been sacked, made redundant and resigned in my time. I've also had to sack people, make redundancies and deal with resignations. It's all just work.

Yes once . . . at Bloomfield Road! I was working at the old Supporters' Club in the South West corner as an electrician. My boss was a director at the time and he relieved me of my duties. I must admit I deserved it.
