Because I was called Patricia and everyone called me Trish.

I am confused - that would make you an ex-Patricia or ex-Trish* not an ex-Pat. I don't think your joke holds up to scrutiny.
* Or at a stretch an ex-Fanny

I always liked to be called Pat- I was named after my Great Great Aunty Pat, so I always called myself Pat to non close people out of fond memories of the dear lady. Trish was a name people just gave me as it was a bit more update.
I really didn't want the operation but being called Trish by everyone just led me to it.
