It will be absolutely awful and weak Michael McIntyre type crap comedy.

Unless it’s after the Watershed and written by one of the more edgy comedy script writers it’ll be total gash.

Basically it’ll be Rocky V

What a miserable lot on here.
It’s a comedy show. It was incredibly funny first time around, and still is. If you can get past your wokery.

I can’t wait to see it - and to have a good laugh. And guess what - all those who are targets of the humour and are stereotyped eg nagging wife, will be laughing away at it. We don’t need a load of old stick in the muds to be sat spewing their faux anger. If you don’t like the idea, don’t watch it, and maybe stop moaning about it.

Instead you can join me on my campaign to have no more pathetic 007 Bond movies.

I will definitely watch it. It was brilliant first time around, and I sincerely hope it is again.
That’s not very likely though. Far more likely that it will tarnish the memories of the original.

He has remained edgy. And he wrote it originally so I’m sure he’ll be writing this or having a huge say in the script.

I hope not. Some shows are as good when they make a return. For example, the latest series of The Apprentice is the biggest comedy show on tv. 🤔😉

Well I hope they include a new character. A miserable taxi driver for Kenny’s Cabs who appears in each episode dropping off a passenger at the front door of the hotel. The passenger alights, says “You are so rude!!” and then punches him in the face. Maybe more than once in some episodes.

Mrs Fawlty watches and shouts “OMG Basil he/she has punched Kenny!!!!” (sort of a less violent riff on South Park and “They’ve killed Kenny”).

Every good series needs a ….. punch phrase. And this is much funnier than “I know nothing.”

Well if the writers of South Park were to get involved with it then the relaunch of Fawlty Towers might just work!

It's written by John Cleese obviously.

🤣🤣🤣

It was of its day, a fawlty idea. What next? The Larkins, Bootsy and Snudge, The Telegoons, the Sooty Show, Mr Pastry?

I didn't realise Cleese was 83 WTF would anybody at that age be doing running a hotel (chaotically) I'm very surprised he's doing it TBH surely even after all his marriages he can't be that skint. Guess I'll give it a whirl though, but I'll be shocked if it's anywhere near as good as the original series.

...aside from another attempted re-boot of the original, if he (Cleese), actually appears as Basil Fawlty aged 80 odd, there has to be a certain amount of screen time, explaining no Polly, no Sybil & no Manuel.
Then, bring in the new blood (his true daughter) & try to develop her character.
Tough one for me, as a devotee of comedy - & even genius director, Rob Reiner, surely has a tough act to follow.

Probably my favourite comedy of all time, certainly favourite sitcom.

I can cope with the weak remakes of Porridge, Dads Army, Are You Being Served etc. They'd all already gone down the established 70s route of an inferior full length film version, and it's easy enough to ignore that and concentrate on the real thing.

But I hold Fawlty above all those, and for it to be dragged down to gutter level would be hard to take. Given his original rejections of offers to continue it, I only hope that Cleese thinks like that too, and has something worthwhile in mind. Of course I'll be watching, but it's with a lot of trepidation.

I think, to be fair to Cleese he's writing it as a favour to his daughter. She's a (pretty crap) stand up comedian, and he's cast her in a lead role. He's been divorced god knows how many times and I'm sure he even did a standup/speaking tour because the last divorce left him 'penniless'. So his legacy to comedy is untouchable, he must be over 80 by now and knows that a sitcom, no matter how shit that gets aired globally sets up his daughter for life.

Will watch it regardless.
