I monitor Manchester to Vancouver, for skiing holidays🏂⛷️, but as this year it was cancelled, & Canada is still closed, so I cannot commit to go for next Easter Hols

BUT next Easter 21

I could fly return per person from Manchester to Vancouver, via Amsterdam for £360!!!!! ie £1098 for the 3 of us, this years cancelled flight was just short of £3k

& I can't commit to go😭😭😭😭😭

Unbelievable cheap !!! Can’t you uncommitt to what’s stopping you from committing 🤔

The Canadian border is closed (something we should have done in March) so for the foreseeable future, we can't get in, & to get a refund, when you know you cant get in, but the flight will still probably go, ie no refund

Anytime soon, it’s £13 each way from Liverpool to Tarragona (Barcelona Reus).
Three cons...
  • It’s Ryanair
  • It’s against Govt FCDO advice to travel, so travel insurance would be invalid
  • You would have to do the 2 weeks quarantine on return
But a few days October sun is tempting. And best hotel on the seafront is only £60 pr pn with Expedia (<half price)

Closed borders on 16/3 and a really hard lockdown for a month+ would have made a huge difference. Not quite a NZ success but getting there. Certainly not 60,000+ dead. Instead they waffled and procrastinated.

Some countries forbid all exercise outdoors - except dog walking e.g. France and Spain. Also forbidden to travel more than 5km from your home and you had to download and sign a form to take with you when you went anywhere...and much stricter enforcement by the police (both in terms of the fines and also in terms of your chances of being stopped).
Basically, a lot "harder" than ours 🙂

The reason why it's so cheap for next Easter is obvious - a fair chance of no holiday and losing all your money.

How many cases do you think were brought into the country after that date?
It was the lockdown a week earlier that was needed. No Cheltenham festival.
If the borders had closed another week earlier... no Atletico Madrid fans.

The disaster in Bergamo occurred in the days immediately following the Atalanta-Valencia CL match on 19th Feb. Lombardy went into lockdown only on 8th March... too late. A lesson available to us for over a month.

Stop questioning peoples hindsight wisdom, especially when they know FA.
If you don’t learn from the past you are doomed to repeat it. Given that Bozo is a Classics graduate, one might have thought he would have appreciated that. Obviously not.

They did not work it out in time. A lesson available to the UK for over a month. Since the summer, Italy has done better than us in containing the CV.

Anybody booking any foreign travel or even thinking about must be complete lunatics. Until this thing is sorted probably through a vaccine just stay put.

Okay, so this is France and Spain compared to us since the start of June (click to expand):

so how much difference do you think that stricter lockdown made?

Cant disagree, however I have property in Spain, so need to visit periodically, (no one has been since I was there in Feb) so I may have to do the self isolation thing, its a price worth paying. I dont need to interact with anyone while Im there, but not decided yet... & as mentioned, any insurance is invalid...

Even with the benefit of hindsight you don't seem to be able to consistently decide what we should've done and when, first off it was shut the airports on the 16th, now it seems to be total lockdown on the 16th and shut the airports on the 9th, or is it total lockdown on the 9th and shut the airports on the 2nd or what?

Liverpool v Ath Madrid was 11th March, 5 days before you said we should've shut the borders; Cheltenham was 10 - 13 March, again before you say lockdown was needed.

And of course all that you say we should've done flies in the face of the scientific advice at the time.

I believe a full on British investigation is needed....... & I'm pretty sure the outcome will be we needed to put our underpants on our heads & shove pencils up our noses earlier

A bit like my old next door neighbour who was off to Egypt just after the Arab rising and the downed plane coz it's cheap.
No thanks I'll give it a miss.
