Flood Alert For Poulton Le Fylde, Cleveleys & Fleetwood

Just driven through Poulton and Thornton. Lots of surface water and some fairly deep puddles on the roads. Drive carefully y'all.

Drove from Blackpool Old Rd, Poulton to Morrisons this a.m. No problems.
Except the idiot behind who obviously wanted to sit in our back seat. 😠

Pity we arent allowed a river barrier like they have in London, where the value of people's lives is considered to be greater.

Plumbs, not sure about that.
Is the London Barrier to stop water coming in, or going out?
You wouldn't want to stop it going out.

I think it keeps the water in so they get the opportunity to have a good wash. Someone just needs to give them instructions on how to use soap 😁

It's bull. They issue this every high tide, computer generated based on the levels of the land. There is zero possibility of river flooding in Thornton, Poulton etc. Any surface water flooding is from rainfall volumes.

We do have a river barrier to prevent flooding from the River Wyre. Its under the the roundabout at the end of Breck Road. It was put in after it flooded in 1978 ( i think). In theroy it stops the dyke flooding .

I was told that it has never been shut and it is now so rusted that you couldn't close it even if u wanted to

That doesn't surprise me. I believe another issue is where/when the Rivers Brock and Wyre meet and floods around the St Michael's area. Some works undertaken there but it just cant cope when its high water.

Most of the flooding round here is because they don’t clear the gutters and there’s ongoing issues with drainage. Putting a sodding camera down there for 3yrs plus is just playing at fixing the problem
