Flu v Covid

my opinion is that before the flu vaccine was invented flu was a lot worse than the current Covid and even back as recently as the 50s flu killed half my mums side of the family☹️ Now we don’t have figures published every day during the winter for flu but if we did it would be in the 100s of thousands every day and considering the flu vaccine has been around for years still 1000s die from it every year but no hysteria 😯

I keep saying it as do others, let's see a proper breakdown of figures.

We should probably get a Flu League Table sorted to frighten everyone to death with for this coming Winter....

  • 40,000 people in hospital at peak;
  • 120,000 excess deaths over the period;

Best estimates are that Covid is 10 to 20 times more dangerous than seasonal flu, worse still Covid is much more contageous than the flu (something like 5 times so).

Yes, we know those figures well enough, but how many were from vulnerable groups and/or with underlying health conditions, and how many were from seasonal flu.

You can check out the age profile here if you want (although I can't tell you anything about other vulnerabilities): https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...nalfiguresondeathsregisteredinenglandandwales

The question I have to ask is why does it matter? Are you saying that vulnerable groups shouldn't get hospital treatment, or that if they die it doesn't matter?

and how many were from seasonal flu.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you saying how many of the 120,000 excess deaths were seasonal flu? If so then that's probably about minus 5,000.

Alternatively if you are asking for a comparison to seasonal flu from other years then the following might help:

The 120,000 is excess deaths. That means 120,000 more than normal. Normal also includes seasonal flu deaths. So to make it simpler for you, 120,000 excess deaths on top of all causes including seasonal flu.

That's with us all being mostly apart from each other to!

Covid; the only virus in the history of time that comes with a marketing campaign and its own fan club!
