I've throughly enjoyed this World Cup

Probably one of the best ever and its great to see the Arab countries and smaller nations do so well

Some of the fast paced pressing football coupled with some massive support has been great to see

Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all having a World Cup in the Middle East

Thing is though, the football would have been just as good and entertaining had it taken place in a more progressive country. I guess the only difference is is that it would've been better organised and more people would be welcome to attend and to be themselves.

Edit: Gosh. I've bitten, haven't I

And media nonsense about gays, armbands and migrant workers I've throughly enjoyed this World Cup

So In other words you support any homosexual living Qatar as being ok to be thrown in prison or even worse?

Yer ok I get that. 🙄

Media nonsense about gays?

So you support being a homosexual in Qatar is punishable by being thrown in prison o

Eight countries in the WC where homosexuality's is banned should they be thrown out to?

Let’s be clear here it shouldn’t even be in a country full stop where human rights are violated in such draconian ways.

And England/Wales are no better than any others by going there.

A world United in football my arse.

I disagree I actually think having the World Cup in the middle east has made things a bit more level for the smaller countries

Surely that has to be a good thing

6,500 deaths of migrants workers in the 10 years since Qatar was awarded the World Cup.

Not a penny paid out in compensation to bereaved families of those killed not one construction company taken to court.

Yep let’s all support it. 🙄

Bunch of hypocrites as ever, we sell arms and goods to the Middle East most of us have holidayed their also.
Most of us have holidayed there, really?

I don't think it's fair to call the average Joe a hypocrite because of arm sales, it's not like any of us have control over who the government sells arms to.

But would you give them a WC where homosexuality's are banned.🤔
Not for one minute.

I’am just trying to justify selling arms to Middle East countries which you seem to have a beef with.

Selling 80 Tornados 72 Typhoons and 40 Hawks to Saudi has kept 16,000 people in the northwest in employment not to mention big government financial packages including cheaper oil for 3 decades is that such a bad thing?

I’d say not.

You do realise the Germany killed 6 million Jews and have also held the world cup

To be clear I haven't done either, nor would I ever. So less of the "we". Some cultureless people choose to holiday there and one government backed company sells the arms.

I think you're right when you see countries like Saudi Arabia beating Argentina as well as the crowds being as big as they are for countries from that region.

But again I think it could've been hosted by a more tolerant country and still see those scenes.

Of migrant workers rights yes. Resulting in far too many of them being killed. It's in the article for you.
So people travel to a country for work and money 💰

They aren't slaves they went on their own free will for money you are making out they were forced to work for free

Not really. The football is entertaining, but it doesn't stop it being in the wrong place for the wrong reasons.
Been in the wrong place for the wrong reason for the last 12 years. Nobody cared enough to lobby MP's or the FA. No pressure to pull out of the WC. Even now no call for Gary the Crisp and his Boys to come home.

Egypt.🤔
Plenty of countries in the middle east.👍
I'm not disputing where the middle east is, I'm questioning whether 'most' of us holiday there. I'd be very surprised if 51% of Brits had holidayed in the middle east.

I don't have any beef selling arms to the Middle East just pointing out the rank hypocrisy of it all.

I'm thinking that if FIFA is really serious about diversity then they should never have awarded the World Cup to a country where homosexuality is illegal.

Saying that you make some very good points as you have done all the way through the competition.

Putting how good the football to the side - I can't help thinking you are overrating it in response to Robbie's post the other day - I am not sure we really should be screaming about what's going on over there.

A very small sample I know but the lads from the Under the Cosh podcast all think that the folk could not be friendlier, I know none of them are gay but they also mention a chap who has been working out there for 10 years on construction and he knows of only one death in that time - a German bloke that he was friendly with was sadly killed.

He agreed that the health and safety procedures were very poor but the 6,500 deaths figure is about as accurate as the Covid data over here.

Somebody mentions that 8 of the countries participating in the competition don't allow homosexuality and England has never hosted a World Cup where homosexuality has been legal.

I'm not putting Qatar forward as a role model for the rest of the world to follow but I'm not sure we'd like it if foreigners started telling us what to do - some might suggest we already role over backwards for them but we'll leave that for another time - so maybe we shouldn't be so quick to put the but in.

I'm finding it strange why anybody would accuse you of being homophobic based on your posts and it might be an idea for such folk to read what you actually say rather than imagining something that you didn't say.

I'll shut up now as I'm chunnering and I really only came on to congratulate you on what will be a good knock.

A good post regardless of whether anybody agrees with you or not and clearly inspires discussion and debate.
