For the hypocrites!

I’m against racism in any form and especially the attacks on the England players on Sunday night and I certainly wouldn’t boo players taking the knee. However, we live in a country where free speech is our right, so trying to force people not to boo is a form of repression, trying to impose your views onto them. I don’t agree with them, but the only way to stop it is by education.

One thing I do object to is those players taking the knee and holding up a clenched fist, that’s something else entirely, but again, it’s their right to do so.

Now get off your political hobby horse, pushing your political left wing agenda, have a glass of mineral water with your vegan breakfast and chill.

I wonder if those who have pretended to support Show Racism the Red Card but backed booing players taking the knee will now apologise and back every player and person taking a stand against racism.
My guess is they will find some other excuse.
I think that statement backs up what a lot of us have said.
Yes, taking the knee is a supportive gesture, but without a proactive approach, nationwide, to educate where needed and punish when needed then a gesture is all it is for now.
Government ( any government ) hasn’t done enough historically and we definitely need to go after the social media platforms and business owners whose businesses are, by default, allowing racism an audience it shouldn’t have.

There is much to be done and we all need to be involved where we can.

We must not forget though the majority of British people abhor racism.
It’s a minute minority of morons whose voices are being amplified by media outlets lacking proper moderation or accountability.

I agree with 95% of that bit I don't think racism is a minute minority. I think it's fairly endemic, whether it's racist jokes in the pub or even racial stereotyping when dealing with minorities. I've read enough racism on this website and although they are the minority it's not a minute one.

The statement from Show Racism the Red Card is pretty unequivocal. Anyone disagree with it?

I don't disagree with most of it, but specifically:

The government cannot hold individuals to account.

That's the police, the CPS and the courts (the people) - HMG should be well out of the way when it comes to prosecuting people.

We already have the laws in place to deal with this, whether we have the time energy and resources to do it, when essentially it's name calling on a social media platform (relative to physical crimes against people) is another thing entirely.

I absolutely support the right for footballers protesting and express their beliefs by kneeling, but as unpopular as it is, I support a member of crowd disagreeing and expressing that by booing. Picking and choosing who gets to exercise the right to protest is the start of a slippery slope in my opinion and it's something we need to try to avoid.

This times a thousand. Twitter, Facebook and all the rest are making a fortune in clicks when rows start about racism.

We need legislation to ensure all social media accounts are linked to a real, responsible person. Have whatever title you want as a name, but make sure they are accountable.

Also fine the content providers for messages that break the law
I couldn't print messages of racial hatred in a newspaper and get away with it.
