Formation thoughts

Basing this on who we currently have fit, plus the likely additions of Rogers (now confirmed) and Bowler.

MA seems to want to play 4 at the back if at all possible, so in CC's absence Lyons into RB and a combination of Marv/JT/Hubby and Hubby/Dom almost picks itself right now.

We have 4 "forwards" to pick from. He's been able to keep them all as happy as possible recently by playing them out of position. But whether he plays a straightforward 433 or goes more like 4231 then he's surely got some interesting and difficult selection choices coming.

if Bowler's here he'll start in one of the wide slots. If Rogers is fit he'll probably get the other, or maybe CJ if it needs to be split. Poveda has made himself more or less undroppable in a free role behind the front. Whoever the two CMs are - Patino, Dougall, Bridcutt (one day) etc. doesn't really come into this.

He's going to have four blokes for one central attacking spot, and who he chooses will really affect how the team's going to play. Going to be very hard to keep them all happy now.

I think what is more important than whether it's structured as 4231 or a flat mid of 433 it's that he will finally with Rogers and Bowler which is sounding likely plus Poveda have players who can play how he wants to play.
There's a lot of noise around MA but for me if he's backed with players then I'll start judging him from now rather than what's gone before. Utmp

Yes agreed, maybe I didn't say it too well. The wide men will now be just that, not one of the four forwards being asked to cover it.

Tough selection choice.

Would be nice to have Gabriel fit too, as he works well overlapping on the right, with a lot more attacking potential, perhaps with Connolly mopping up in midfield.

I think he wants to play a 4141 formation

This gives the full backs opportunities to go forward and the DM can fall back into a 3 to allow CH’s to cover full back channels

The two in the centre of the middle/ front 4 can really dictate play and feed the wide men plus get beyond the front man

The DM will be key to this, at the moment we have no one who plays there naturally other than Stewart and Bridcutt ( so as I said, no one)
