Also would €100/120 daily pocket money be enough? Im going solo so I wont be eating in fancy restaurants or drinking in bars

will be a few cans at night in the hotel with a movie, God i never thought id see they day when that would be an ideal night for me

Used to live there until about 18months ago.

Where are you stopping and what dates are you going, as this will depend what I advise?

👍👍

Only had a brief stay there but thought it was a great city . . . great walk along the river which is lined with museums / galleries.

German cities are very underrated . . . I've been to Munich, Stuttgart Berlin, Hamburg. Koln & Frankfurt and all have been great 👍

Cologne and Nuremberg are also very good city breaks. Other destinations well worth a visit in Germany are Freiburg, Passau, Wurzburg, Heidelberg and Garmisch-Partenkirchen to name a few. Germany in general is a stunning country and well worth a visit by doing a fly/drive holiday.

You have to see the Old Opera House as it is stunning and a walk down the river is very very nice.

The train station is the rough area (not that rough) which is adjacent to the red light district.

The Main Street there which leads away from the main entrance of the train station is called Kaiser Strasse and does have lots of mid level bars and restaurants on it. If you walk down there it will take you to the new opera house and the old location for the European Central Bank.

One option you do have is to get the train the other way from the airport and go to Koln as it’s much more fun - it’s about 45/50 mins away on the quick train.

What I will do over the weekend is right you a proper idea and post it here.

I wouldn’t rule out going in the odd bar or cheap restaurant, as if you know where to go I can send you to some great places that are not expensive.

Also Frankfurt is known for its Apple Wine, which doesn’t have a tax on it in Hessen, and it’s cheap Rocket Fuel.

Some of the Apple Wine bars (it’s a bit like
Cider) are hundreds of years old, very cheap and worth a visit.

Also Germans do have a sense of humour as I was sat in one of these with a German and asked him ‘how old it was’, he told me and followed up with ‘yes the RAF missed’ 😂😂😂

How time passes, it was actually 2 years ago this week we left!!!

Thanks mate and appreciate it

the RAF comment was hilarious 🤣

The apple wine is rocket fuel, i can confirm. Visited the old square fresh off the plane at 11am and thought id get a pint of the local tipple... was thinking it would be like cider but if i remember correctly its about 13%. Very tasty, a must try. Needless to say it was a good day.

I really enjoyed the botanical gardens, really upmarket neighborhood and a little oasis in the city, well worth a walk around. Also enjoyed a walk over the bridge away from the city center, great view back of the city.

Cant really remember much else, the apple wine got to me.

I used to live less than 100m from the Botanical gardens and they are very nice (they are in the Wesse End of Frankfurt) 👍

Yes it's a stunning country . . . I've been to Garmisch which was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

Another probably silly question but is the train station at the airport easy to find so i can get the train to the main station
Yeh, it’s integrated.

Plan your train, as some will take forever, but the quick ones take about 15 mins from memory.

Bluntly you want one that looked like a fast bullet and not one that looks like a tube train!

IMO stay off the apple wine - tastes like pi$$! Only drink in Germany I've not enjoyed! 😀
I had a Schumacher - absolutely disgusting. Apparently its an altbier, I ended up pouring it away. Got it at the F95 ground. Everything else I have tried I have enjoyed to varying degrees, even other altbiers.

Altbier is normally brewed and served around Duddeldorf which is an amazing place.

Nearly 300 bars in the Old Town which is not that big 👍

Shame you will not get the opportunity to see Das Eagles play at home.
Very vocal fans and one of my best German football experiences was seeing them beat Dortmund a few years back.
As others have said, great City.

I used to go and watch Eintracht Frankfurt all the time - it’s a shame, but Limerick arrives the day after they play Stuttgart at home.

It’s also not Das Eagles but Die Adler (The Eagles) I think. Get der, die and das wrong and the locals get the hump!!!!
