Free Agent Strikers

As mentioned by numerous people we are lacking in the forward areas so as I did last year I thought I’d put a couple of options below that hadn’t been mentioned incase anyones curious who is still available:

Alex Jakubiak - I think he’s the most interesting out of the lot as he’s only 26 and last season he helped Dundee FC win the Scottish Championship scoring 6 goals in 20 games. He’s been hampered with injuries over the years from what I’ve read however when he has been fit and playing regularly he seems to score goals. You may remember the 2 goals he scored against us when he was on loan at Gillingham in the 19/20 season -

Steven Fletcher - This man needs no introduction as everyone will be aware of him, although he’s 36 he managed 33 league games last season scoring 9 goals in the SPL which shows that he’s still very fit at his age and capable of banging them in. Could be a great option to help the younger strikers learn from his experience

Brad Young - He is not a player I’m familiar with however given Critch’s Villa connection this could possibly have legs. He’s been prolific through the youth ranks however he’s never been able to replicate that form when he has been loaned out. Scoring the amount of youth goals he has can not be a fluke so I think with the right coaching we could make a player out of him based upon what I’ve read

They are the only 3 I don’t think have been mentioned on here so I’d be interested to hear anybody’s thoughts. Honourable mention for Conor Wickham as he fits the mold of the big lump everyones been after but as has been mentioned before I presume wages could be an issue but Forest Green managed to sign him so who knows.

He scored 6 goals in 16 games for Forest Green Rovers in League One last season which proves at League One he’s still capable. How he ever disguised himself as a premier league player is a different question 😂

If it was possible I'd love us to do something for Britt Assombalonga,
Proven goalscorer throughout his career, wages would be an issue but ATM he's earning nowt 🤷

Guaranteed goals in this division, its what you need for promotion
I'll guarantee at the quoted price we're not even considering him,

The club's record transfer ever is £1.25m, and even in the championship with allegedly £8m a year more in income, we haven't got that close to breaking it, do you honestly think we'll beat that as a L1 club?

I'd lower your expectations

Not as if we can't afford it. 4 million bowler, 2.5 million yates.

We've had 2 million of the Bowler fee, the rest is add ons, and assuming we sign banks then we've spent about £1m of the Yates fee already on Banks, Norburn and Joseph, not to mention it's been said that incoming monies are also used for other things within the club, pitch, infrastructure etc, so e of it as I've mentioned is reinvested but not enough to sign JCH

As I said, I'd lower your expectations if you think we'd even attempt to sign JCH for what he'll cost as a L1 club, it'd be a WOW move if we did it in the championship, to think we might do it in L1 is living in cloud cuckoo land quite frankly

Think we’ll be looking at an experienced pro (Billy Sharp/Chris Martin type) and a youngster on loan to bolster the forward ranks.

Re: Langstaff

£1.5 million for someone who has only consistently performed in the national league is insane.

Yes, he did exceptionally well at that level, but it's a huge step up to league 1

Ah! Right.

You mean the same as the £1m Fleetwood wanted for Jamie Vardy was insane?
We know how that one turned out!

Goalscorers cost money.
If we're serious about getting back up to the Championship at the first attempt then we'll just have to take a chance and spend some money.

So? Do we want to go straight back up to the Championship or not?

We'll make, is it 8 million getting back up, PLUS we could sell this guy on in a year or two for 3 or 4 million.

Let's be ambitious for once! Speculate to accumulate or whatever
You think we'll break the club's transfer record in L1 when we didn't in the division above when we had The £8m extra income you mention 🤣

Vardy is the exception, not the rule.

Even Adi Yussuf performed well in that division, and he was garbage

Can’t afford his wages or at least we could but it would break our set structure.

Isnt this supposed to be a thread about free agents?! Hijacked by the Jonson Nombe Clark delusionals!
