Frustration overload

We kind of wasted the Portsmouth performance tonight didn't we.

I would have taken a 1.1 given how flat we were. The backpass goal well and truly killed us when we looked to be in the ascendency.

We looked jaded and lacking in any ideas to break them down. To be fair I thought they were good value for the win. They won nearly every defensive header, were compact and broke well on us, perfect away performance.

We couldn't back it up, so still a work in progress for me.

Last night highlighted Blackpool's problem this season.

When a team put 11 behind the ball, we find it incredibly difficult, in the most, to break them down.
Also, the inconsistency with the players is quite alarming.
All were poor last night but special mentions go to Sonny, Marv and CJ who were all imperious on Saturday but looked like they'd never played the game on Tuesday!!!

We’re going to have to learn to play well when we’re aren’t at our best & get wise to other teams time wasting and taking the piss.

We look far too soft and nice on the pitch.

That said, I can’t remember many games where every player was so poor, Owen Dale absolutely stunk the place out. Fresh airing clearances, shocking crosses and that late chance. He probably couldn’t play that bad if he tried.

Just one of them nights but we have to learn from it.

Unfortunately there have been quite a few performances like that one last night and we don't seem to be learning. We are so frustrating this season. They make you want to tear your hair out 😫

I think what's so alarming is that individual performances aren't just slightly off, or what might be called a bit 'below par', there's some pretty wild swings in quality on display from one game to the next. If we want to go up, that needs to end it's as simple as that. I'm not expecting to win every game of course, but I think we need to expect a certain standard of performance from these players, and last night wasn't even close.

We've had varying performance levels this season obviously but last night was one of those games that unfortunately happen sometimes. Very hard to stomach or explain. The players just not in the right place mentally after Saturday to go again so soon, after a long away trip. Against mundane opposition. Fallible human beings. Still a work in progress.

Man of the match?

The Cobblers goalkeeper for wasting so much time and not being carded.

I'd have their Fulham loan striker, Kieron Bowie, in a heartbeat. He ran the lines so well, full of energy, pace, strength and desire. Absolutely what you need v L1 spoilers.

And yes their keeper stood there doing nothing whilst the ref's back was turned then looked like he was doing something as soon as he turned round. What a horrible style of football. Fook we need to get out of this league.

I have pretty much had it with some of our players really. Marv for me would not play again unless Casey is out, if Casey is available Marv sits it out period he was beyond poor tonight. Dale would be out too and Lyons in, i dont give a sh1t if Critchley has fallen out with him, swallow your pride and play the man. CJ needs dropping and replacing too. Sure he has had 5 or so good games this season but the other 15 games he has been abysmal. Get Gabriel back in for the next league game and if hes still not available switch Lyons to RB and put in Thompson, yeh he has an error in him too but at least he is a footballer with an error rather than a sprinter who cant even control a ball without falling over.
We have 4 or 5 really weak players in our team and if they have a good day then we play okay, if they revert to type we are rubbish.

Portsmouth was in a way the easy game to show who we are, not much pressure go there and play, against the odds for many.

A Tuesday night game at home, against a team sitting back a lot is the real test, especially given our record on weeknights. They didn't just fail, they gave up their style of play from the start and went long, couldn't string simple passes together and completely bottled it.

An utterly inept display, absolutely clueless and we could be deservedly mid table top half when all games are equal.

With this squad that's very poor.

It's definitely a work in progress!

CJ has been good recently because Dembele plays him the right balls. At times last night he had a circle of 5 Northampton players round him so struggled to pass to anybody never mind CJ. They snuffed out Kenny as well. Our lot don't move around enough to help the player on the ball, and when they do, nobody sees the pass. Morgan was the only high point. Calm and can pass the ball forwards. No idea why Dale wasn't hooked in the 2nd half. He disappeared until the last few seconds. Well done to Northampton though. They played a blinder.
