Was it Catherine Tate who did the skit where she claimed to be fluent in several languages? So was brought into a meeting involving lots of foreigners. Very funny in a sort of “Mind your language” / “Allo allo” type of way.

It also reminds me of a story (which may or may not be true) of a court hearing involving a German witness with no English. A court translator couldn’t be found and it looked as if the hearing would have to be adjourned when a little bloke at the back said he could speak German and would be happy to help. The judge was suitably grateful and asked the man to step forward.

“Thank you very much for your assistance. Could you please ask the witness his name.”

“Certainly you honour”.

Turning to the witness he asked:

“Und vot is your name?”.

The judge was unamused
