G7 - Ukraine

Russia saying it was an attack on a weapons depot and the resulting explosion of weapons caused the fire at the supermarket. Predictable.

Russia claiming that the attack was staged, possibly with Western help, in order to put pressure on NATO to increase the pace of its weapon supplies. Kremlin propagandist Vladimir Solovyov claimed that the strike was staged by Ukraine. Speaking on Russian state TV, he said: "Ukrainians do the same trick as always when they need additional military help. They start screaming - they had Bucha earlier, today they have Kremenchuk. Supposedly a shopping mall. There are supposedly many deaths, though for some reason there were few cars in the car park. And there were almost 1,000 dead. Then they talked about 100 dead. There are no photos. Everything is as usual."

So you believe then it was all staged?

I’ve never heard of anyone claiming 1,000 dead, reports said there were up to 1,000 in shopping mall at the time the missile hit.

And let’s not forget only 3 days ago a block of residential flats got hit by a Russian missile in Kiev, reports said then it was close to a nearby ammunition’s factory.

The Russians keep denying it targets civilian homes/apartment blocks but how can you accept that just because it’s near to a munitions factory it’s an acceptable target?

It’s cold blooded murder however anyone chooses to word it and the Russians keep getting away with it.

I suppose there will be some who believe the Russian version, mainly in Russia obviously, because the massive fire isn’t normally the result of a missile strike. Huge damage and small fires usually, so something ignited.

The strange irony of war reporting is that the people who decry all reports coming out of the opposition news media as propaganda are the first ones to fall for the propaganda of their own side.

The rhetoric coming out of the NATO meeting in Madrid is extremely provocative. I can’t see Russia seeing it as anything other than a threat of war. Add Bidens announcement that

It's going to take something to happen in a Western country to do anything serious about it.

We prop up the military of our enemies because we allow the outsourcing of so much manufacturing there because it keeps us in our comfortable lives.

We need to use of purchasing power as an act of war; into we do that, we are our own worst enemies.

I can only see two scenarios, Putin wins by being allowed to keep all the territory gained, or Nato goes in to throw him out. Neither seems realistic though. The west can’t be seen to allow him to win and Nato won’t go in for fear of escalation.

It looks like it’s heading for a long, drawn out war of attrition with more civilians and soldiers tragically killed and maimed and the country’s infrastructure devastated. All the promises of more and better weapons don’t seem to be get where they need to be, otherwise Ukraine would not be retreating and losing cities.

Ukraine are fighting virtually on their own. We have to step in at some point otherwise tyrant Putin will carry on hiding behind the skirt that is the Kremlin destroying life.
So we step in and leave ourselves wide open to attack from Russia?
How long do you think we would survive?
Even if the might of NATO got involved I think Putin would see us as a prime target and then we would be in the same position as Ukraine.
Hard to imagine in this day and age but a possibility with a lunatic like Putin running wild.
As Scaramanga said before, dialogue is totally futile and there are only 2 ways Putin can be stopped.
He is assassinated
The force of NATO is too big for him so they go in and blitz the place.
But if the latter happens then thousands more innocents will be killed which makes us no better than him.
Rumours are that he is in ill health with only a couple of years left to live so in his own deviant and perverse way he is going out in a blaze of glory.

He knows that NATO isn’t going to intervene, so when he’s taken Ukraine, he’ll have a free hand to move into any non nato country he wants. That may be years of course, because he’ll need to build his army again, but it will happen.
