Gateshead FC thrown out of NL play-offs

Solihull get the bye because it was them who were due to play Gateshead.

It's a real shame, but the rule is clear and has been in place for some time. I wouldn't fancy being a local councillor and explaining their policy to the fans, though.

Yes I know Solihull were due to play them. Hard to fathom a council not supporting a club, when it could generate significant income for the town. The council did make proposals but after the deadline and EFL rejected the argument. As you say, rules are clear, but bizarre that it’s got to this late stage.

I’ll be at Alty on Wednesday v Halifax.

To be fair to the local Council, they are also in a bit of a bind, as I understand it. They are skint, as are many others, and the site the club is playing on apparently needs a lot of work to maintain it to a safe standard. I still wouldn't fancy being the one to explain this call to the fans though.

As someone who attends the odd Heed game and has some insights. The club have not paid their rent this season. The council are reputably losing £1m a year on running the stadium and just put the contract for its management out to tender. The club have a 2 year lease but the council could have given them 10 years with suitable break clauses but chose not to. Shambles

Always good to get the local view.

It's been a really interesting Division to watch from afar this year. I feel for Boreham Wood ; going down with 52 points must really sting.

Perhaps all this extra dosh coming the way of the EFL from the Prem could be used to help bring grounds up to spec.

Why does the EFL insist on ten years? Seems a bit harsh. How many existing clubs have that guaranteed (I’m thinking of all the years Coventry were virtually homeless). I get the Councils position to be honest and reading the local press a number of fans are blaming the EFL. And we all know how useless they are.
