Gay bar chant

If you mean the “ Lancashire is Wonderful “ chant then I agree

It’s one of the worst if not the worst .
My error this morning after a few drinks getting over the T20.
We dont half have some soft arsed fans who get upset at a few songs

Maybe football isn't the place for such weak constitutions
I must come from a very odd town that shows so little respect to the female sex. If that makes me soft arsed then I will live with that.

I am with you. It's my worst song too

Instead of discussing amongst yourselves about what the gay community may or may not like , why not ask them ? The gay folk that I know would find this chant rather funny !
Is that you speaking on someone else's behalf or have 'the gay folk you know' actually told you that they find it funny? I'm not saying they wouldn't, but 30-40 years ago I can recall similar things being said about people's 'black mate's' ... I'm not saying people wouldn't find the chant funny by the way, but we probably need to ask them at least.

In fairness Phil, I just think that the kind of bigotry that we all went along with back in our day, has just had it's day. Society has changed (mostly for the better, when it comes to stuff like this) and we really just need to man-up (for want of a better expression☺️) and stop it. To my mind, the 'soft arses' are those who are too scared to stand up and do what's right for fear of what their mate's or "The Lads" might say.

I was talking to one of my best mates the other week over a drink and he was saying that still (in 2022) he regularly suffers abuse and threats of violence, just for being gay... Just for being himself... It's ** bullshit... And he's a braver man that any of the so called 'hard-men' on this thread, I can tell you that for a fact.

People being offended about everything isn't a good change in society

I know several gay people and I don't think any of them would he remotely bothered about that chant

And believe or not I also know quite a lot of females who wouldn't at all be bothered about the Lancashire song either

The Woke left strike again in avftt land

They are generally independent of any football club but surely the club could encourage it. I mean for all I know they might be doing that but while most clubs have set one up in recent years we haven’t.
Ok so you said the Club haven’t done much to support Jake? Then say you for all you know they might be doing.

So basically you don’t know, but just want a new supporters Club which I don’t think would make any use to Daniels football career.

Why don’t you approach the Club and start it, then you’ll have the inside track 👍🏼

It’s not about ‘being offended by everything’ though really is it. It’s about creating a society and environment that’s inclusive.

I just don’t understand what we get out of this sort of thing, it just feels like bullying to me.

Society is inclusive

Its only the woke who look for issues to moan about

The England football team not having a black player for example

Yes, I am speaking on someone else’s behalf, because I know them well enough to know their personalities, I know how they behave . Unlike you and the others who are speaking for them without knowing !

Awful chant and very problematic right now. At the same time the club have done very little to support Jake. We don’t even have an official LGBT+ Supporters club. Even clubs like Tranmere are light years ahead of us on that front. It needs sorting
The club isn't responsible for setting up supporters groups.

There's nothing stopping someone setting an LGBT Supporters Group up. I'm sure the club would recognise it and probably welcome it.

To suggest the club have done little to support Jake is simply not true and is completely at odds with what Jake says in his statement.

"In reaching this point, I’ve had some of the best support and advice from my family, my Club, my agent and Stonewall, who have all been incredibly pro-active in putting my interests and welfare first. I have also confided in my team-mates in the youth team here at Blackpool, and they too have embraced the news and supported my decision to open up and tell people. "

I asked a question… I’ve not spoken for anyone without knowing. I’ve simply said that the chant is homophobic and that as far as I’m concerned we’d be better just dropping it.

The whole basis of the chant is to use homosexuality as a slight.

I’m not sure how my friends or anyone else would react, I’d have to ask them, regardless of how well I thought I knew them.

The Lancashire is wonderful and gay bar chant absolutely should be binned off. I like a good chant and I like funny chants verging on the insulting to rival fans but we need to recognise their is a line and quite frankly I cringe and feel embarrassed when I hear them. I'm sure they will continue in the name of 'banter' and 'I have a mate who doesn't mind them' but thats really not the point is it.

I simply dont understand why it was ever sung in the first place.

It suggests that places like Preston etc are wonderful.

Why the feck are Blackpool fans singing this ?

How do you propose they get binned off?

Maybe some under cover police in the crowd to arrest people for swearing or using inappropriate language

One for the SLO

It doesn’t take much… folk just need to stop singing them and be prepared to acknowledge it’s wrong (especially those who have the respect of younger supporters and influence to make a difference).

What’s the point in a chant that at least half of the fanbase doesn’t want to join in with in any case….

If people don't want to sing it then fine nobody is being forced too

Maybe the club can design some fluffy tangerine ear muffs so those so easily offended can cover up their ears

What do you think about the folk jumping in to defend the Mural Artist against any criticism ?

Were they not a bit woke and precious too?

I've found some ear muffs for those that are offended by some rude words

I'm not that arsed either way to be honest

I'm not an art critic i think it looks ok
But you did offer your ‘woke lefty’ support to those who seemed to feel people shouldn’t express their honest opinions… And those were just opinions as opposed to intentional insults.

Maybe woke us just in the eye of the beholder?

Just like BST, Muckers and the like, if you’re passionate about the subject, I’d suggest you start one yourself.

A painting on a side of a building miles away from where i live isn't that important to me to be honest mate

I don't really understand all the uproar

It’s not the painting though it’s the hypocrisy..

The point being it’s fine to get all upset about the possible ‘hurty feelings’ of certain people, but when it’s other peoples ‘hurty feelings’ they need a pair of unicorn ear muffs.

I'm not bothered about what was said to the artist its more about all the highly critical art experts we have on this site

I never realised we had such a talented bunch

I’m not going to indulge myself too much in this thread but I will say that the gay bar chant is meant to be a slur on homosexuality.
As such, if it intimidates even one youngster at a game into then feeling swayed by its connotations enough to not feel comfortable ‘coming out’ then it’s not really defendable.
We are trying to let go of discriminations that prevent people from feeling comfortable living their true lives, so it should be easier to just find another chant and move on.

You only have to look at Rangers and their LGBT + Ultras, the Union Bears, to see what a fantastic and vocal backing can be achieved through proper inclusivity and fan engagement.

I though they were exceptional yesterday and I’m not one for Scottish Football at all, but if a Club with all of that historic bigotry can be engaging there should be no excuse for us.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Blackpool fanbase

Stop being negative

I think the club have supported Jake which ultimately made him comfortable enough to come out. I just think they could have done much more around it to try and educate people more which could help prevent things like the chant which regularly features. I genuinely thought after Jake came out that the chant was finished. With Jake coming out it shows we must have a progressive hierarchy but we could become the St Pauli of England and be more inclusive. Obviously that doesn’t happen overnight

I’m just saying, we can always improve👍

I wasn’t there, but they said on the podcast that they created the best atmosphere ever seen at Bloomfield Road…
What on earth has the Rangers fans atmosphere got to do with Blackpool fans signing about gay bars

Why would you want us to be like St Pauli?

Probably the most politically focused club in Europe
