Gazette headline - forward thinking Blackpool council

Phase 2 of Hounds Hill expansion given go ahead.

The High Street is dying yet our muppets are throwing money at what will be a white elephant.

Idiots!

My take on it is phase 2 with the super cinema, restaurants is a way to entice people (locals & visitors) into the town centre & extra footfall for the shops. Anything shiny & new gets a 👍 from me.
I would think that an entertainment complex rather than retail, which it seems to be, is the way to go, to be fair. Better there than an edge of town set up like every other town in the country.

Possibly aimed more at visitors than locals?

Good at throwing money away Blackpool council.
£22m on a tramway extension to nowhere, £59m for Hounds Hill. 🙄

I think its the right decision and they have a 25yr lease with IMAX and 15yr with Wilkinson's, certainly will bring people into town and holiday makers are more likely to watch a movie there than try and find the odeon.

Not sure what the answer is for town centres but im glad its happening than not.

It was always going to go ahead. I wonder if the building contractors are party donors?
To the Labour Council who run our town?
You really need to do some research before posting such garbage.

Bad idea was to buy the building now we are stuck with it this is a good idea with a cinema and leisure facilities locals will use it more than a new attraction on the front.

Need to do something now the main attraction (Debenhams) is going. If it is the imax and food hall concept then it may work.

Everything is aimed at visitors rather than locals in Blackpool

A cinema and restaurants aimed at holiday makers I'd say the exact opposite.
I go to the pictures and eat out and will definitely use it can't say that about the Tower or the Pleasure Beach for example.

I think this is the right sort of development for the town and will bring business. The offer addresses how a large proportion of people already spend their leisure pound, the idea being to encourage people to hang on longer, spend more and use the full range of (albeit usually pretty much identikit) facilities - food halls, cinemas, shopping, bars etc. It's a model that up until the current situation has worked well for big landlords such as British Land, Grosvenor etc.

There is already a multi screen cinema near Bloomfield Rd. You would probably have to drive then park up miles away from the new proposal. The one we already have has parking a few yards from the entrance.
Yet again the council come up with some hair brained idea to throw money at!!

Which new mythical retailer is going to move into the massive Debenhams site, and the many other empty units. Instead of adding to the existing site they would be better repurposing what’s there.

Yes I know what I’ll do, there’s fuck all good going on so I will stick the boot in to Blackpool. seems fair.

You do know that the council won't be running the cinema so what on earth has the one near BR got to do with anything.
I think it's brilliant that I'll be able to pop into town to watch a film and those that are moaning are the types who probably don't go to the pictures anyway.

I know we'll stick a cinema in the middle of town . They tried that with the odeon (if you're old enough to remember) along with the ABC and princess cinemas NONE of which are there now.

It's over 23 years old this is a modern state of the art cinema experience.

Odeon(Funny girls) ABC(Syndicate now car park) Princess cinema(Waterfront night club amongst many things)proves exactly the point time moves and one shuts another opens.

Fair enough 🤷‍♂️
Let's not forget to knock the odeon down near Bloomfield Rd.
Bloody old buildings we need to move on

Would any of the brands open an outlet here? Nearest brands outlets are Manchester, liverpool, Cheshire Oaks.
No idea if it's possible, just a thought.
