Never realised the guy that smashed in the winner for Bolton against us this season spent all his time in blackpools youth team and then got let go only to end up at Bolton.

There is an article in the athletic about it.

Yes he was at AFC Blackpool in the NWCFL briefly when I think he was 16/17 and played out of position at left back. I went to one game away at Longridge when they had investment in their team to get up through the leagues and were expected to hammer AFC on the night and he ran the show against them from full back. Then they took his registration on and he's gone on from there. He was with one of the local independent football academies and they were trying to find him a pro club and a way back in. Trevor Sinclair kept turning up at the time to watch so guess he was involved in it.

Bolton took him on when they were needs must and he's got into the team in L2 and gone on from there. Left footed centre mids who can make your shape work and keep your team functioning are gold dust. He's a solid lad and he'll have a good career.

Shame we didn't keep hold of him but I suppose hindsight is a wonderful thing

Probably one for resident youth team stalker Insider off here to talk us through why that happened. But I'd say the demands of english football are to be ready to go 100% every three days and be big strong and athletic. So if you're not that at 17 -and you probably won't be coming through a tiny last pick kid academy like ours without having been missed by a proper set up to begin with- then if there's any development there it's usually through someone else getting hold of the player as they hit their growth spurt. Or at a level where you can give them a game to toughen them up.

Tom Barkhuizen wouldn't have had a championship career without Jim Bentley at Morecambe an example. Or Dion Charles if Southport weren't a feeder club for John Coleman at Accy.

Yeah I completely agree. Although we seem to mess it up more times than not apart from maybe marc Bola and osayi-samuel off the top of my head who we made money from.
