German fans today

Spent the game chatting with two lads from Stuttgart. Flew in this morning just for our game, flying back tomorrow. Apparently they tour Europe taking in lower league games “Real football, not Man City or United”. ( Their words!).
They loved it today and said they’d be coming back regular as we’re their new foreign team!

Every credit, couldn’t believe it.

Was talking to 2 lads from Norway at the Boro game who were doing exactly the same .

They must have seen some proper shit games if that makes them support us 😂

I get football tourism, but you’d normally think of watching a game at Barca or Dortmund in Summer. Proper footy fans to come to a freezing Blackpool to catch a game!

They sound like oddballs tbh

There was a group of 10 Arminia Bielefeld fans in the Morretti Lounge. I recognized the badge from my time in Germany and went across to have a chat. My limited German was not a barrier as they all spoke perfect English!
With the German Leagues not back until 21 Jan 23, they had come across to do a weekend of football. They had been Rovers v PKE, Pool v Brum and on Sunday were going to the WSL Manchester Derby and Oldham v Torquay.
A really good bunch and knew their football - pity they saw probably the best Knobbers performance for 20 years.

I wish I’d been in there, mate, I used to watch Bielefeld when I lived nearby in the late ‘80’s. They were cack then, mind.
One of the best night clubs for alternative music in Europe was there too at the time, I loved that city!
👍

Johno,

I used to go and watch the old SC Paderborn (Paderborn/Neuhaus) in the Westfalen Oberliga at the Hermann Lons Stadium in the late 80s.

I am sure that I went to a game against Bielefeld as it was a top of the table clash - Bielefeld had been in the Bundesliga until 85 or 86 but then spectacularly collapsed and ended up back in the Oberliga. Bielefeld won the league that year but then lost on the Play Offs.

You are right though, the football was cack but it was near where I lived and handy to see a live game.

I watched Armenia Bielefeld regularly between 2006 - 2008. Also caught a few Paderborn FC 07 games in 2010-2011. loved the German atmosphere at games, also loved how the ticket price quiet often included free travel 2 hrs before and after games on public transport.

Additionally, I caught the Monchengladbach V Eintracht Frankfurt whilst over there a few weeks ago. It's a shame our fans can't use the Pyro like they do over there. certainly, adds to the atmosphere.

The atmosphere is great at most grounds and the public transport cost being included in the ticket price is such a simple and effective idea. It was only an extra Euro and saved so much time and effort.

Never got to go to an Armenia home game but ended up back in Paderborn from 2003-2005 and started watching them again. A far better standard that time round. Moved north in 2006 and would go and watch Hannover 96 6/7 times a season. They were a top 10 Bundesliga side at the time and saw some great games.

I was in Paderborn 2003 - 2005 also, didn't get to too many games unfortunately. Who was you with? I was at 3Bn.

A group of us off here visited several German clubs during the boycott years and had some great times.

Generally very well received by our German hosts, the only time we did experience any hostility was when stood on Koln's home end. Was asked to move by the home Ultras.

Must be more common than we think - I was out in Manchester last Friday and ended up talking to two Belgian blokes, who'd flown over to watch the T'rovers v Nob End game, and they regularly come to watch Championship clubs. They were older than me, and their main complaint was that everywhere shuts too early in London and Manchester, as they like to carry on drinking into the early hours. Mentalists.
