German Tanks in Poland?

I fail to see the point of Poland buying German Panzers.
Why buy tanks for use in wars etc when you have to get permission off the producing country?
Do the Germans think that other countries are buying the tanks to use internally?
Didn't the Polish Govt realise that they couldn't use them against any aggressor without German permission?
Germany, "We'll sell you the tanks as long as you don't use them against other countries."

The tanks (as are many weapons) are provided for use of procuring country only. Permission to re-export to a 3rd country requires agreement by German government - similar clauses will be in place for weapons manufactured in the UK which are exported (eg Saudi won't be able to give its Eurofighters to a 3rd country without UK government approval).

its like sub-letting your flat Dave...sort of

I’m kind of with Dave here, ok, they’ve got them so that if they were invaded they can defend themselves. On the other hand, if I buy a Bmw, German car, i can sell it. I do understand that the agreement is probably designed to prevent countries selling them to possible enemies, but this is a just cause.

German chancellor Scholz is being a complete bellend here.
Bring back Merkel FFS someone with a back bone.

All well and good Jaffa but Merkel buttered up to Putin for years thinking she could persuade him to be a reasonable partner............how's that going?

The Leopard unlike the Challenger has yet to prove itself in battle, perhaps the Germans are a tad worried the Leopard does not live up to their expectations when push comes to shove.

The Leopard 2 has less armour than Challenger in some places, but it’s adequate. It is less heavy so slightly faster and uses less fuel. But in many respects the Leopard 2 is the best choice for Ukraine. Its 120mm smooth bore gun fires standard single-shell NATO ammo unlike Challenger’s two or three-part ammo, so quicker firing. It’s also easier to train Ukrainians to operate. And neither Leopard nor Challenger has been tested in a drone-heavy battlefield which is a very different scenario to Iraq.

But the main advantage is that over 2,000 Leopards have been built and operate in Europe so there are plentiful spares, inc engines, and repair depots in countries close by to fix them. In contrast, Challenger has a turret built to metric measurements and the chassis/engine/running gear built to Imperial measurements so you need two full sets of tools. All in the UK. And there are only a few hundred Challengers (227 operational with the British Army).

Wasn't Mutti ex Stasi?
Mutti was a nuclear particle physicist. And born in West Germany though moved to East Germany as a child. In East Germany they reckon one half of the population was spying on the other half. But Merkel actually declined to report to the Stasi about her university colleagues when they tried to make it a condition of her getting a teaching position.

Her advantage with Putin is that she speaks Russian fluently. And she bought a lot of gas. Her big mistake was shutting down their nuclear power industry prematurely. But after Fukushima no German politician could ever be elected again if they supported nuclear power. Atomkraft, Nein Danke !
