Somebody asked me can i give my opinion on the big race each Saturday. So here goes. I do not bet on 15 runner plus Handicaps as a rule but I have a good handle on the form book. I'm in a bar in Orlando so I had a spare hour to look through the Ayr Gold Cup. I always start every race with the favourite and can I get it beat. Ozario to me looks a weak favourite. The horse will be over bet as from the hills stable. But for me the form is not substantial to win a substandard Ayr Gold Cup. Usually this race has a group horse lurking but not this year. The Strong one for me at the top of the market is summegand. Rock solid form and looks plotted for this race. I would have a small win bet at 12/1 but I think the 7/4 first 5 would be the value play. Also at around 50/1 I would throw a couple of quid on Desert Cop. Andrew Balding has a strong affinity to this race as lochsong bolted up in this, trained by his farther. When I stay I would back it. It would just be a throw away £5 ew. The rest of the cards look awful. This time of year is awful for punters, the grounds unpredictable and horses are tired after a long season. It's best now to wait until November and get the cash on novice chasers. Sometimes you can get even money on a class horse first time over fences. Racing against vastly inferior opposition. It's like backing Usain bolt against Ricky hatton in a 200 sprint. Just a non contest. Good luck all for the weekend and I hope the seasides do the buisness. They are due a good result.
