Glastonbury Thread 2023

The only reason Rick Astley was any good was because he had some decent songs to sing for once. He was ok but glorified karaoke, Morrissey is the main man and should be the only guy singing these classics

Axl's voice is holding up very well for his age, it's the mixing desk where the vocal problems lie. Even Axl has said he's struggling with hearing himself! If it's GnR's sound crew responsible, I think someone's getting sacked in the morning!
As I posted earlier two feeds one we get on TV and one live.

Moving his mouth in time with effect screams isn't miming? Music has moved on since I went to gigs.😉
I think we might be talking about two different things. The screams I was talking about were in bits where he clearly wasn’t singing at all and the microphone was nowhere near his mighty gob. I think you might be referring to some bits where he was trying to sing and his range and power were failing him…not miming, just not cutting through.

If he was miming tonight his backing tracks need a hell of a lot of work!

How many decent rock guitar bands are there left to perform as headliners at Glastonbury, as GnR are showing how it’s done - seems it relies on acts that have been around for decades these days as there aren’t the younger bands coming through who have the ability to command an audience.

The criteria for headlining seems to be having a big back catalogue, the quality seems much less important to the organisers.

Perhaps the days of world dominance has passed by for guitar bands.
I could name loads of bands who deserve to raise a crowd as headliners but half the fuckers there won’t ever have heard of them so they can’t be ‘headliners’.

I think you are being a bit harsh on Rose’s songwriting skills. They have the songs.
Yeah maybe. I became interested and read their wiki page. He's been a right ** down the years. Back to Slash, the only guitarist I've ever seen who uses not one but two doublenecks.

Ahaha ffs. You must have been watching a different channel to me buddy.
I saw GnR at Donnington in the 90's when they were decent.
That on telly today was the biggest pile of steaming ***** I have seen for some time.
Embarrassing.

Saw them in 92 as well and they were excellent, supported by Soundgarden and Faith No More.
For blokes hitting or at 60 they were brilliant and showed that there aren’t the world dominating rock bands anymore.
The audience loved it even though they weren’t a patch on what they were at their pomp in the late &0’s early 90’s

He’s totally unique as he’s entirely self taught and totally brilliant at his own style. Just like David Gilmour.

Fair enough mate we’ll agree to differ on that.

Guns n Roses have always been shit, Foos are a guitar band and one of the best live bands out there, but I wouldn’t listen to one of their albums, that 80’s/90’s big hair shit was always shit. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Mountain, Led Zep, Free, they were proper guitar bands.

There are so many great bands about at the moment who aren’t at Glastonbury, but most people live in their comfort zone re music and stick to an era they grew up with. I love bands from the 70’s still but I love loads of bands that are new now because I don’t shut off to new stuff. You boring old fuckers!! 😂😂

I’m sure if they could pull it off then Slade would be headlining tomorrow.
Glastonbury was always irrelevant and if it wasn’t for friends n family of bbc execs on a jolly then it wouldn’t be the monster it has turned into today.
Loads of proper festivals to go to each with distinct indentity and a line up to suit.

Every year the headliners show that there's no dole or record deals and thus we're seemingly stuck, forever watching people who were big in the 80s and 90s cos the music industry as once was is dead.

Music isn't dead, it's just not funding the kind of stadium filling guitar music it once did..No one buys music and hence, people don't give hundreds of thousands of pounds to new bands to make and tour music.

It really, really shows. Up to a certain point, the big festivals were generally headlined by bands who were of their own era. Now, I dunno, I can't remember the last time the headliners were younger than me.

It is what it is.

I hate the way the BBC DJs talk about it as if it's obviously the highlight of everyone's year. Its excruciating. 'Glasters' fuck. off.

Not the biggest Lewis Capaldi fan but i felt bad for the geezer last night. Great effort I thought under the circumstances! Thought MSP were ** awesome btw!

Yep. Axle’s vocal cords haven’t fared well. Saw them in ‘92 at Maine Road, they were excellent.
I was at that gig too. I didn’t like them then either, all poodle hair and posturing. Just not my taste, I suppose. Thank goodness it was a free ticket. Now it’s paunches, sagging jowls, double chins and dyed hair. Slash can have a 7/10 for (over)playing his guitar.

Jo Whiley was a bit embarrassing going on about Chrissie Hyde, Siouxsie and Poly Styrene. She was about 10 yo when punk started and about 14 when the Pretenders released their first record. I guess she might just have latched on. But the woman who was her co-presenter wasn’t even born. Oh well, at least they appreciated it.
